I always thought twins woudl be the way to go on a VH45, however im not sure about what turbos would be best to use...

Anyone have any suggestions. Slim uses 2 T25/28s on his setup, and that seems to spool quickly and works great.

Any other suggestions of what turbos woudl be good to use for a twin setup?

I'd be inclined to use 2x factory turbos off an RB25DET or VG30DET (same turbos) with the T3 flange... simply because they're a good size to spool nice and quick, and should boost out nicely to over 6000rpm... and being T3 flange means there are a million aftermarket turbo options ranging from T04s (a perfect desirable upgrade to run two of on a VH) right up to T88 turbos... which I doubt you'd want to run two of :p

My pick if I could have any twins on my Q would be Mary-Kate and Ashley. Of course, as far as turbos go, two T3 Ford Turbocoupe (turbo 2.3L thunderbird from mid-late '80s) turbos would also work well and are cheap.

Twin GT3076R matches very well to the VH but would be pretty expensive.

Very good info. so for starters you guys would run 2 T3s.. Seems about right... How far would those take you?

Depends on the ratings of the turbos themselves. I reckon you could get a steady 550-600 flywheel HP out of a VH using RB25/VG30 turbos, and probably around 800 or so if you used nice T04s.

T3 flange has a huge range of turbos available varying in size... you'd probably be better off using turbos that provide generous response so your setup isn't too peaky.

I think there were two different sizes used on the 2.3L ford. One was something like a .48 A/R and the other was a .63. A pair of the bigger ones is enough to crack a stock 5.0L block (which is right at 500rwhp with a decent tune). I think the smaller ones, if I recall correctly, are about maxed out by 500hp at the flywheel. I'll take a look on the turbomustangs forum to check. Anyway, the smaller ones spool up very fast on a 5.0L and the bigger ones don't spool up quite as quickly but are still very street friendly and make lots of power. Of course, some of the guys on the forum don't consider it a "lot" of power unless you're running 8's in the quarter. Then again, on the BMW forums they seem to think 300hp is "a lot".

I'm gonna have to go with Mary Kate and Ashley as well. Both of them together could blow a lot more than a turbo.

My vote is for a pro-charger but simply because of my application. Instant power, simplicity and....it just sounds cooler.

I got myself a pair of T04E.

cold 0.5hot 0.84

mounting them up next month. this month is to get my engine starting. As such, no comments.. but i guess they will come at around 4300rpm. max out at 900hp?

the problem now is the power steering join (between rack / steering wheel) is holding back. have to find a way to clear space for the turbo.. unless run both of the turbos at 1 side. with 1 side of the exhaust manifold flying to the other side...... headache....

however, my is a VH41DE. but car is fully lighten..no interior at all.

What would EGT's look like using such small turbos on such a big engine?

If you are not doing internal modifications, small ones that spool quickly that max out at redline would be best for everyday driving and throttle response, it would seem to me.

To run large ones, forged pistons with lower CR, injectors and intake, oil system, cooling system would all ahve to be upgraded.

Need to study the Porsche turbo system as blocks are quite similar to VH series.

T3/T04E 50 trims would be a good choice as well as a pair of Holset HX30's in you're on a budget.

I believe that the Nissan R390 and R390 LeMans cars were VH45DE-TT, Id see if you could scope out some of those parts :P

On an internally stock engine I would probably run gt2871r's and on a built engine (depending on use, lets say still a street driven car) I'd go with twin gt3076r's. Those should put you into well more power than you can ever hook up without tubbing the rear...

I really like the idea of using twin RB ones... that sounds not so expensive but sexy...
