Well I’m looking at changing some things up. I have been thinking long and hard about throwing a twin turbo kit on the VQ37VHR and wanted to know if anyone here has gone that route. Looks like it would be a rare beast according to my internet searches. The other thing I may possibly do is get rid of the Q70s and get a 2013ish GTR. I know the GTR road is a lot more of a hit to the wallet. I think it would be awesome to have a TT Q70 as it is not common, however on the other hand...GTR.

If you commute on the Nürburgring, never have passengers, and don't mind fanboys taking pictures of your car and trying to race you then I'd get a GTR. Otherwise, I vote for a TT sleeper sedan.
I don't know anyone who has done it, but VQs have plenty of support so initial costs won't be like force-inducting an M56.

If cost no object, then disregard what I've said. :rotfl

I think that's a tough call - GTR not designed for comfort/convenience but stock waaaaay fast- imagine if you tuned it.

A Greddy or AAM twin turbo system will set you back about 9 or 10 grand or so - that would be a serious sleeper!!!
The weight of the Q70 would be the only thing that would bog you down, but you could rip out the seats/carpet, spare tire, trunk bits and probably change to lighter wheels and you'd have a MONSTER (of course you'd lose all the luxury too) Plus, if you got tired of it and wanted to go back to stock and then buy a GTR - you could sell the TT setup to me -lol.

the AAM kit for the Coupes would likely fit up with minimal changes. depends on how many miles you have on your motor. you cant really compare the GTR to the M, its just not the same car. that would be like saying well do i TT this or buy a Corvette or used 911 turbo? just not really the same.

I’m leaning TT for the Q. It would be more practical for what I need it for. Plus I love the idea of having a potential semi sleeper. To be honest I have always wanted an M5, but the problems they have are absurd for the cost of the car. This could be my perfect M5 like substitute in the form of an Infiniti that I love. (Before anyone says why didn’t you get a 5.6? At the time I didn’t want the 5.6 plus they are like finding a needle in a haystack) Looks like Redsport Q70s is going to be the winner. My guess is I will start the project in Spring. I will keep you guys updated. All in with engine components, breaks etc...I’m looking at about $20k. Not to mention I’m probably swapping suspension and going aftermarket wheels. If anyone has recommendations or experience in this field please give me some feedback. I appreciate all insight!

Not sure if 20k will get it done LeRoy. I say that because Russ has the first and only M56S rear twin turbo setup and he said it cost him 30k to do that entire setup. You will have to do transmission work, exhaust, tune, etc to get that thing to work. There is a V6 Q70 on YouTube that was suppose to have turbo put on it to make 600 HP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqoVwlEx7YY . Whether they finished it or not I have no clue. I think you will have a monster on your hands if you go through with it. Russ said his M56s twin turbo setup is putting down over 550 RWHP with a tune that is not right. So you should be able to get at least 500 RWHP out of that V6 since the platform has been turbo'd before. Best wishes to you!

Wow $30k for a set up on a 5.6 that’s only getting 550 RWHP??? Yikes. I’m expecting a daily driven 500 RWHP out of my 3.7. I’ll have to get a true estimate and go from there. Pretty much going on the cost of my buddies all in TT 370z. Anything over $20k all in may not be worth it to me. Thanks for the info!

LeRoy,

That is 150 more RWHP than a stock M56 at the wheels with just a tune and exhaust. His M is almost 700 HP at the crank on a bad tune and I think only 3 psi of boost. The transmission is built to hold up to 1000 HP/TQ. If he bumps the boost up that thing will probably have well over 800HP. 3 Psi is not a lot of boost and to put down 550 PLUS at the rear wheels is very impressive. To be honest you would be better off buying a C63, E63, CLS 63, or M5 for the numbers you want. I know you already stated your reasons against the M5 and I understand. However, the cost of the Q70 then putting all that extra money in it you would come out cheaper buying one of those listed above or even a A6 or A7 and get the APR tune that bumps it to 500HP plus for only $1200. I thought about going supercharger on my M56s but when I started to calculate the cost and then the upkeep it would be just as expensive if not more than buying the M5 that I want to replace it with. All that M5 will need is custom exhaust and a tune. That is easy 700HP potential as someone on youtube is already stating over 600HP at the crank stock on a 2013 M5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycl_4-8sVCE

All of this sounded so intriguing! That was my first thought.
I can't work out why my second thought was a turbo diesel that is quiet, clean, and provides 35 mpg average? How could that thought be in my head at age 35?
I mentioned that to Fetucini and she said "Darling, maybe you're growing up" and had a nice laugh. God help me !
Seriously though, I'd fancy the Q70L with the TT over a GTR any day of the week and twice on holidays.

Stillen supercharger? Won't hit the wallet as hard, minimally invasive setup, crazy power on tap...I've been toying with this idea myself.

I would love to see a TT project on this Q70s, that would be amazing. The transmission is the only thing I don't trust in the drivetrain, not that it will break but that it won't shift quickly enough to really employ that kind of power.

And somewhere in the back of my mind I think you should test drive an Audi S8 first...just going to leave it at that.

The GTR is a purpose built machine. It's already boats which is designed for rather than retrofit a Q70 that will never have the capability of the GTR. Then if it's not enough power it is already setup for what ever you throw at it. The drive train is already setup to handle more power and for me a car that's already designed for boost will be way more reliable than one that isn't designed that way. Suspension is awesome to boot.

That's my opinion

Got some local quotes on the TT build and as Walt eluded to the cost will be way too much for me to justify it. Quoted around $30k from two different locations due to all the custom fab that would have to happen. I want to keep a sedan around because I have kids, but I want more performance. I may be looking at getting an M Series BMW. Not a huge Mercedes fan and absolutely hate Audi. Tough choice because I love my Q, however the lack of aftermarket parts here in the US is absolutely a killer. Hell as far as I have seen ARK no longer makes the GRiP exhaust for our cars. Sigh...

GTR still carries four people and upgrading it is easy with a ton of aftermarket.

M cars are sweet but way overpriced as the AMG are too.

In that case at least test drive the M550i...its a VERY strong competitor.

There's now a 50 state legal twin turbo kit available for the M37/Q70. The carb number is D-873 the kit is made by EAC. This kit uses genuine R35 GTR Turbos!
