I'm considering a twin turbo setup for my 6-speed G35 Coupe. Also on the list of possibilities is NOS. I've never owned a car with either, but I'm honestly looking for the max HP gain I can get while keeping the maintenance costs reasonable. Any ideas pro or con and does anyone know how much HP the 3.5L V6 is capable of handling? If you had the money...G35 or RX-8?

Do you like Nitrous Oxide Systems or are you just refering to nitrous as "NOS"? None the less welcome to nico, have some fun.

lol, nice KS. also, i dont recomend just "stepping" into a car with a TT set-up or N20 if you have never run it before. the VQ is good, but doenst like FI that well. the way its designed doesnt work to well for running a lot of boost. greddy only got a 30hp gain on their car. and forget maintenence costs being reasonable. anyone will tell you that a boosted car isnt the simplest thing to keep up with.

I would love to have twin turbo on my G. Probably a pain to install and expensice as well, but kick arse none-the-less.

Actually, I have a friend in CA who can get me a great deal on the entire installation. He's already been in contact with Greddy, and I've read the reviews on Greddy's supercharged 350Z. The turbos that are currently available from Stillen and Greddy are pretty weak in the boost dept (5-7 psi). I'm looking to get a major HP gain while keeping the coupe looking like it's bone stock. Of course, once you pop the hood the haws start droppin'. I'm just unsure about the nitrous since I've heard a lot of horror stories. I guess if you keep it to a reasonable shot it would be ok. What do you think?

I wouldn't go with the Nitrous. But, it would make a hell of a car. Aries had it on his coupe. You should ask him about it.

I've seen Z's running N/A with good tires, ECU tuning, intake, exhaust etc. and they can really haul pretty good. Since the VQ is built on a N/A platform, you could try that route. It's much safer and more easy to maintain as opposed to FI. Just a thought.

I've thought about that. How much HP can you actually gain doing that?

I think:

Stillen's kit is a Supercharger (Carb and 50 state legal, 354hp, $3,795.00 from stillen)

Greddy's kit is Twin Turbo (No info on Greddy's website)

You're right...I mixed 'em up. But Greddy's turbos on the 350 are only 5 psi if I remember correctly. I'm hoping to get more boost than that.

Stillen's website said they're supercharger was pretty weak since it's an initial offering pending CARB approval. What's the time frame on the upgrades?

carb is california specific and if 60+ addition alhorsepower to the wheels for $4000 (on a completly stock car) is definatly not "weak". It puts out more power than the Greddy kit with an easier install, better price, better power curve, and it has availible upgrades to raise the boost levels. Dont get me wrong, the turbos have much more potential but the Z/G35 block isnt exactly built for boost (open deck design).

Good choice in car by the way ;)

I wasn't referring to the HP gain being weak, only the psi boost of this initial offering. Stillen's selling this supercharger and at the same time is basically saying don't buy it until they get CARB approval and really crank it up. Essentially it sounds as if this is just something to tide us over until they can finish develpment of their more potent "upgrades".

being carb-legal wont increase anything :) all that says is that the kit passes the stringent emmisions standards set by the california state government and is legal for street use in california (its already legal in all other states). What you would get now is the same as you would get in a year.

If 5.71 psi on the supercharger nets 354 hp i would like to see what 8 psi with a new pully, headers, full exaust and tuned fuel system would yeild on the VQ35DE :)

I bet the cat was mad at the kid for something, usually cats like small kids.

did you all see the Stillen G35 coupe in the back of the new MotorTrend? They claim a 70hp gain with the SC. It was running 6.5lbs.."i think".

Check out the Nov. issue of Road and Track. They've got a tuner shootout w/ 350Zs from Brembo, MotoRex, Stillen, and Greddy. The MotoRex Z was NA and estimated to be putting 350 hp to the crank. 0-60 in 5.1 sec. (1st place), 13.7 @ 104.6 (3rd place, but only 0.1 sec. and 0.2 mph behind Stillen). The car had cams, a light flywheel, and a Pop Charger. Those are the only mods they listed, but I'd say there has to be more, although it did have the stock exhaust. Pretty impressive to get specific output up to 100 hp/ liter from the VQ.

And when did we start spelling word with an "e"?

Is there a culture gap here? Am I that old?
