I just got my alpine 9815 and eclipse pa5422 amp installed with my component mb quart reference all the way around from an install place. and after throwing down lots of $$$$, the system sounds. . . . normal. the install, i would have to say, looks very clean and i'm very satisfied with it.

are there any tips on how i can tune my HU and amp to make it sound cleaner? all the sounds sound mushed together like (like i'm not hearing the best of anything) and because i don't have any sub installed.

the installer said he raised the low end sound on the amp to make up for the lack of amp. how should i go about tweaking my system? should I start with my amp first then tweak my HU? anything important to keep an ear out for?

anything'd be great.

do you know if you have any filters set on the amp? there should be a switch on the amp that lets you choose between FLAT, High Pass, and Low Pass... most likely the Low Pass filter setting is selected... try choosing the FLAT setting and turn the bass down on your deck... turn up the volume to as loud as you could possible want it to be and listen carefully for distortion in the woofers... up the treble & mids on the deck according to your taste, and turn the bass up conservatively and back it off a little once you hear the woofers flapping/distorting a little...

that's how i would do it, and if you're speakers don't like to be run FLAT, then just go back to the Low Pass Filter setting and set the frequency to around 60-80hz...

if you could explain how it sounds "normal" in more detail, that would help us help you...

try turning the treble up and the bass down. also there should be preset equalizers to choose from, and you might wanna try differant ones. play around with the options (im not sure what ones your hu has) until you get a good sound. try everything, and you should find something that pleases your ears.

when turning up the speakers as loud as possible and listening for distortion, will that hurt the speakers or blow it out?i remember him saying also that they bypassed my amp crossovers for now and went with my HU crossovers until i get a sub

Whenever I judge a system's sound mix, or the even distribution of frequency response, I either listen to my home sound system as a reference which is

A/V Reciever: Denon AVR-3802, 125watts X 7 (only front 2 speakers used for proper imaging, sub also used)Digital Source: Denon DVD-2800, connected with Straigtwire Toslink optical digital cableSpeakers: B&W CDM1 NT stand mount monitors, stands specific to individual speakers dampened with silicon sand fill connected to the reciever with Straightwire Encore II speaker cable terminated with expanding banana plugs

I use that system for reference or I would use my Sennheiser headphones on my iPod.

After listening to a few songs on one of those systems, I would then go listen to those songs in the car and set my bass/treble controls.

My recommendation, get some good headphones and listen to your music there and then in your car.

would these headphones be okay to try out? will the noise cancelling effect affect the music much?

thats how i do it.but you should have no noise to cancel.just good studio headphones work good.start at deck with everything set flat,no e.q....plug it into a reciever or headphone amp.play a 1k test tone ,this will tell you were your deck starts clipping.note the volume, below that point is as loud as you should ever turn it up.just because you cant here clipping doesnt mean its not there.now keep doing this down the line.prossesor then amp to test speaker or regular..next.i like to start tuning in the mids first.turn the gain on the amp off,now you can play a test tone to see how much gain you can use.1K..--then i work around the mids, because they have alot of work to do.i try to0 balance the system.then with a flat e.q. you set you crossover points..if this is done correctly you will usaully almost not need an e.q.------in mine id move maximum 4 bands out of 30....just make it sound good for you.thats all that matters.can you give us more detail about the system..there are some super good people at carsound.com that can answer things much better than i.one of the mods is a 240 freak-scott buwalda.he can answer anything i swear.happy tuning, thats the fun part.and on the quart tweet you should jump them at -6 db-very harsh
