I have been looking into a good set of gaming headsets. When I play at night I have one ear piece in my right ear (ear phones) and the other ear is my Xbox360 mic. It sucks.

A buddy of mine has a Turtle Beach headset and he tells me it makes all the difference in the world when gaming. He tells me that they are all surround sound headsets and you could hear people running in every direction in relation to your characters position. I on the other hand hear footsteps and freeze in a corner because I don't know where they are...

So my reason for posting this thread....- What are your experiences with Turtle Beach?- What the experiences of others you know using Turtle Beach headsets?- You thoughts on purchasing refurbished headsets (from Turtle Beach and not a second party)?- Are there any other gaming headsets to look into other then Turtle Beach?

Thanks in advance for your input and help

EDIT: So far the Ear Force X1 is the one I am most interested in:http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx1/home.aspx

Well new headsets from TB is $60 and it costs $40 if it's refurbished from Turtle Beach so I probably will buy from them directly.

I don't have any experience with their headsets, but Turtle Beach is a decent brand. They also make PC sound cards.

Considering how much headphone comfort varies from person to person, I'd strongly recommend either trying to find a pair to test-wear or finding some detailed reviews online. Sound quality means little if the headphones start hurting after only a short while.

There are TONS of gaming headsets out there. Not a whole lot in the $50 range, though. And fewer still with Xbox controller connectivity. So $40-60 is a good price for what you're getting there, I'd say.

Not only that, the X1's are compatible with PC. My buddy at Best Buy can get me a new pair for around $35 bucks so it is definitely a bargain.

Not to thread jack but.... I've been looking into a set of quality headphones for the 360 myself and I'm really tempted to buy a set of the Skullcandy headphones, but I don't know if they are any good. I'm also stupid about sound quality and I've heard nothing but good stuff about the TB headphones, and have even tried them out myself at a gaming convention. They have good sound quality, are super comfortable, and they seem to have a decent build quality to them. The only downfall I see with any of the low dollar headsets (>$100) is that you are forced to be corded to your TV, so you can't get u p to answer the door, or go to the bathroom, or get a drink/food without taking them off of your head (which if you are deep into a game or match you'll completely forget they are even on your head), plus cords are a major PITA especially if you have people over or pets or little kids, someone will either trip, rip the cord out of the TV or worse yet drag the TV and you along with them.

My advice to you is to save up up an extra $50-100 and get yourself the next step up which has even better sound (You'll hear people running around with Ninja on), they're even more comfortable(as in you'll definatelly forget you are wearing them) and they are pretty much cordless, so you won't be leashed to you TV and no one will trip over the cord. Plus I think the corded headsets only have like 40 ft of cord so you'll be sitting practically on top of your TV.

So for an extra $50 you could get these.... http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx3/home.aspx

Or if you really want to super quality for an extra $150 you could get these... http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx4/home.aspx

Like I said I've tried out all 3 and the the higher the price the more comfortable they are, plus they mic is detachable and you can use them with your MP3 players, PCs, or anything else that has a headphone jack.

If you're going to spend $99+, don't limit yourself to Turtle Beach. There are tons of other brands out there at that pricepoint. I wish I could find the article I read recently that compared a bunch of PC headsets (2 or 3 with Xbox support).

I do know that Razer has a new Xbox headset called the Chimaera coming out, but it won't be for a few more months.

Well in terms of being corded...I doubt it applies to me. No kids running around and cats that love to sleep that plus I am usually not more then 3 feet from my screen...

I apologize, my desk is a mess (I hate you school)

As for the sound quality, I am definitely interested...Hearing people that are using the Ninja perk... WHOA!But I find it hard tobelieve that a wireless set could provide better sound quality then one that is plugged in. I will definitely look into it though. The $200 headset I can get for $130 so that isn't too bad.

If you are no more than 3 feet in front of that giant a** screen it's no wonder that you beast it up as well as you do. I'd be able to see people coming at me a mile away too if I was only 3 feet in front a 40" flatscreen.

As far as the sound quality of corded versus wireless goes, the X41 has Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound blasting through a 50mm speaker while the X1 you were looking at only has a 40mm speaker and it doesn't have the same level of Dolby Digital surround sound.

As far Turtle Beach not being the only headset in town, I completely agree with you MOD. I was looking at the Razor headsets yesterday and REALLY wish the Megadon was for the 3360 and not just for the PC, to have 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound plus all the other stuff it has for $50 cheaper than the Turtle Beach X41 ($129 on Amazon for the Razors). I still like the Skull Candy G1's, but wish they were cordless, because they have all the benefits of the X31,X41 for $89, plus you can buy them at any retail chain.

If I had the money to waste I would definitely love to get my hands on a set of Astro's MLG headsets. But @ $300 I just can't justify that kind of money on something that won't get used as much as they should.

HaHa i just made a post about this.

I orderd Turtle Beach HPA2's and an Astro A40 Mix amp. Supposed to be an excellent combo combaired to the Astro headset. HPA2's have 3 speakers in each cup and with the mixamp can be used in 5.1. I'll post more when i get the headset in.

Just purchased the Turtle Beach X1's after messing with the poor quality xbox 360 headset.

- What are your experiences with Turtle Beach?Just purchased today, i have to say you notice so much more sound in game, like footsteps behind you.- What the experiences of others you know using Turtle Beach headsets?I watched a lot of youtube reviews before shelling out the money and everyone said a 10/10.- You thoughts on purchasing refurbished headsets (from Turtle Beach and not a second party)? n/a ??- Are there any other gaming headsets to look into other then Turtle Beach?skull candy maybe, but i heard they don't have voice volume and game volume on separate switches like the X1's do.

my rating 20/10

My Suggestion:

Sure, it may cost you $1400, but it's hella worth it.

I think the point of him getting headphones is so he WON'T wake up his roommate, let alone the rest of his quad.

The reason for the head phones is primarily for the gaming part of it. I game a lot at night and I either use my surround sound speakers normal and piss people off. Play with the speakers low and get raped because I can't hear anything. Or I plug in a set of head phones and plug only one in and the other ear is for the XBL head set (the foot steps are impossible to figure out a direction, it causes paranoia). And I find myself speaking loud in order to be picked up clearly through my cheapo XBL head set.

So essencially I want to (these are a must, anything more than this is icing on the cake):- Be able to game with out sound from normal speakers- Surround sound so my gaming is improved- Have a good mic so I don't need to almost yell to be understood

My budget is no more then $100.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I've got 2 sets of the X4's that have "Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound" and the game sound is amazing and they're extremely comfortable. The one problem I have with them is that the voice chat sounds like s*** on both of my sets. Other then that I think they're awesome. I saw that the new versions are advertised as improve voice chat. I don't understand how they're able to say that it's got "Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound" in a set of headphones.

Dolby Surround sound simply means that Dolby Labs has certified that the product emits 5 discreet audible channels that fulfill a few other data rate qualifiers. As long as the headphones have the ability to process those sound channels, they can be certified as Dolby 5.1.

Ya the setup i got is a lil more than what you wanted to spend but its awesome well worth the cash. If i wouldnt have been an idiot and orderd the wrong cable i would have had a mic last night too.

Its great though i cant tell you how many times i herd some guy running up behind me and knifed him before he new what was happening.

Well I think this thread needs a conclusion...

The other day Newegg was offering a $25 coupon on Tritton AX 720s with free shipping so I pulled the trigger and bought them.

Image
Image

The final price was $105. $5 above my limit.

I am happy with them. My gaming has improved, but not why you would think...
- I have been using a cheap surround sound setup previous to using the Trittons so I could hear directionally, but because I can turn up the Trittons much louder than my speakers makes all the difference. The sound out of the Tritton speakers are great, but if you are a player that doesn't use footstep noises as apart of your arsenal, then you won't need a gaming head set. What I mean is this, just because you have them on, doesn't mean you automatically know where people are. You still need to pay attention to background noises in order to utilize these to their best potential.

The best part about these headsets for me is the compatibility with other consoles and the PC!
- I can pop these into my PC and have amazing sound with almost no work at all. I have been using the Trittons with my PC more than anything else so far. As for the PS3 it requires an optical to the amp and a usb from the front of the PS3 to the back of the amp. So if I want to use the Trittons for my PS3 I need to remove the optical from my Xbox and pop it into my PS3 and because I leave the connection of the usb from my PS3 to the amp on even when not using the Trittons, I am all set. My only issue is that the PS3's mic usb and optical cable are short. About 2 feet so you amp better be close to your consoles.

Another awesome part is that the box had every cable needed to hook up the AX 720s to the PS3, Xbox and PC.

Super comfortable and the mic is also very sturdy. I am definitely confident in it's design and durability.
The biggest issue I have now is that the headset is too big. IDK where to store it when not in use.
