I was reading the jim wolf article on cam removal/replacement and in it it mentions moving the crank until piston number 1 is tdc. What do you use to move the crank with?

Heres the article(its pdf btw) http://jimwolftechnology.com/w...E.PDF

Do i just use a 27mm socket on the crank pulley to turn the crank to match up tdc for the first piston?

yes, make sure the car is in neutral or it may be difficult also, only turn it clockwise so you don't get any slack in the timing chain

yes. just use a socket on the crank pulley. #1 piston should be at tdc.

Side note: Take out the spark plugs, it'll make it WAY easier to spin the engine over by hand.

ok so im looking to swap my s13 cams into my s14. I still have to take the cams out of the s13. So thats sorta my pratice for when i have to put it in the s14. For the s14 i need to take off the clutch fan and shroud to be able to get to the crank pulley right? or can i jack it up and reach from underneath?

I just wanna make sure im not making this harder than neccesary...

Anyone who's done this have any advice?

The shroud will have to come off, the clutch fan can stay on.

Only advice I can give is follow the FSM word by word. Pay attention to torque specs and order or you will end up snapping a cam.
