Hey guys. I decided to turn my 92 Stanza into a fire-breathing KA24E-T. My goal is 300WHP. I have a few questions though...

Will the factory rods/pistons handle 300whp? If not who makes the best bang for the buck pistons/rods?

Im having trouble finding fuel support for the KA24E - mainly an ECU - Is there someone out there that does custom tunes for the Stanza KA24E ECU or do I have to go standalone? Ill be using a small T3/T4 with 550's.

Headwork - Is the factory head able to handle this power mark or should I switch to solid lifters with a new cam?

Thanks for any help!

That U12 ECU you have can be socketed and chipped to accomodate the setup just fine.

Your internals will likely handle the stress, but that really depends on their condition. If it has high mileage, you might consider a rebuild with better parts. But if the mileage isn't too bad and the compression looks good, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The key to longevity is going to be tuning, tuning, tuning.

Allright cool.....Where would I start with having it chipped and socketed?

I'd stay at or under 300WHP, the KA likes to toss rods...especially the #3. Other then that, the entire motor is good to go from crank to valve cover for 300WHP. It just lacks boost and engine management...

Allright well lets say I wanted to get aftermarket rods for the KA24E...Who makes a good set and also is there a metal head gasket for the SOHC KA??

The eagle rods are pretty cheap and fit nicely, but unfortunately you also gotta worry about the rings on the SOHC too. AMS sells a nice full rebuild kit for under 2grand. Its well worth it and it will make a nice reliable motor for 300rwhp.

Personally and I know this will piss some guys off, I'd swap in the KA24DE if you're going to bother rebuilding anything...all together its a better motor.

I thought about that but im not looking to make a super fast car and Id like to work with what I have. Plus I like to be a lil different...meaning that I see a lot more built DE's than I do E's.

Can you please explain how De would be more beneficial than E on Forced Induction set ups? not starting e vs de just wanna know what you figured.

I wonder if it has 2 do with intake manifold design. Buddy's car still runing and thats 500whp+ on bone stock internalls for over a year, but he did remake his intake manifold. (Jeff Taylor)

Same with Ventura racing ka24et they changed cam, pistons, intake manifold, added methanol but not the rods. And that was a drag car 400whp+ .

Both guys above are exelent tuners Jeff chipped ecu and coils and Ventura run Haltech and coil set up as well. So i dunno why people blame rods seems like properly designed intake manifold and some proper tuning is all thats missing. just my 2c.
