Turned the car on with the O2 sensor dangling. Problem?

So I was trying to get the exhaust manifold out before I quit and took it to a mechanic because some nuts wouldn't F'n budge.

When I reassembled what I took out I forgot to return the upstream O2 sensor to it's location on the manifold before I turned the engine on. I also connected the battery a few times with the alternator disconnected to open the doors or close them when I was working.

Now I have a check engine light, BUT no one has ever made a successful connection with the ECM via OBD, ever. Not even with the consult III. So getting error codes is not an option, I gave up a long time ago.

- Should the O2 sensor work properly after it was dangling outside the manifold for a few seconds?

- If there was a leak from the exhaust manifold, should the engine light turn on? ( assuming the O2 sensor is back in place)

- Is the alternator even a remote possibility in this case?

- I also installed a K&N intake, the MAF sensor plug goes in one direction only. That's something I worked with but it was never out of it's location except the few seconds it took to move it to the new intake pipe.

- This is also my first time removing the serpentine belt, I'm pretty confident it went back as it was. Even the squeaks didn't change. Just FYI.

What do guys think?

Hi there, hope this helps you.

1) Yes, your car will just read lean as the O2 sensor will detect too much air and not enough fuel.

2) Yes, it could cause a lean or rich condition due to too much air being in the system outside of what's being sucked in via the filter, etc.

3) Is the alternator a possibility of what? The O2 sensor code? No.

4) Sounds fine. If the car was off when you unplugged the MAF and plugged it back in, all is normal. If the car was on when you unplugged it, it probably stalled on you anyway or at least sputtered pretty badly.

5) lol, can't help you there. Might need a shop.

I was asking if the alternator could be the cause of the CEL considering the work I did, but most likely it's the o2 sensor.

I posted this whole thread because the CEL, it's still on after installing the OBX headers and the coupler thing for the downstream O2 sensor. But it's still on, I'm gonna wait for 50km/30miles if it doesn't go away by then I don't know what to do.
