turn signals / hazards not working

Hey I have my brothers 2001 Maxima for the next couple weeks and I notice that none of his turn signals are working, nor the hazard button. Nothing lights up on the dash either indicating the button was pressed or lever moved. i hear one little click and thats it.

I checked the fuse and its good, and checked under the hood for a relay but didnt see one for the turn signals. under the passenger side relay box under the hood there is a slot callled "cornering lamps" but no relay there... and id guess thats for those lamps that light up when you turn left or right, which ours doesnt have.

He said that if he flicked the stalk 4-5 times sometimes it would work, I havent been so lucky. makes me think its the stalk switch, but then why wouldnt the hazards work? also the brights work and it looks like thats all the same switch? Anyways any help woudl be appreciated! thanks.

not sure bout that year nissan, but some cars have the flasher relay in with the fuse box.

really? i'll go take a look. youre talking about the fuse box in the driver well, not the engine bay right?

edit: i checked, there is a blue relay next to the fuse box in the driver well, i swapped that out with one from the engine bay, no change. then i realized there is a second relay off to the right, behind the dash that i cant quite reach right now, id have to take the lower knee-guard off to access it. when i flick the stalk this relay clicks and i can feel it click, so this is the proper one. makes me think the stalk/switch is a.o.k. and the relay isnt closing properly.

Anyone know how to easily remove that lower dash piece/knee shield .. spans the driver side , its the large piece that the fuse panel access door is cut out of.

ended up pulling the plastic off and replaced the relay, and everything is working now. thanks for the tip
