I'm starting to plan out the work on my '63 L320, and I've got some questions.  Looking at pics of 320s, can I assume that "DATSUN" didn't appear on tailgates of these trucks until after 1964? It appears that the plastic lenses for the 320, are cast onto the chrome trim, and that I just need to cut off the flange on the back, to remove the lense; is this correct? Thanks, John

????
The only one that I know didn't get the logo on the tailgate was the NL320.  The NL also has a cast, chromed ring holding the tail light, but the L320 lights should have had a stamped stainless steel trim ring.

Either way, you shouldn't have to cut anything to get the lense out.

Do you have a pic of what you're working with?

mklotz70, Taking a closer look at my turn signal lights, I've found that I have the cast ones, and those appear as though the lens was inserted into the trim ring, and the inside part of the lens was melted over the edge of the inside of the the trim ring. The outside of the lens is larger in diameter, than the hole in the trim ring, and the inside of the plastic lens extends about 1/8" over the edge of the inside of the trim ring. As for tailgates, all pictures of the L320s, up until 1965, don't have "DATSUN" impressed in them. John

Sorry for the delay...I'm not on here much...I'll try to change that.

Not sure on the turn signals, but my '64 L320 had Datsun in the tailgate.

I've had a couple of L320's and they've had the logo.  Stock taillights are in the pic of the blue one.

Two questions, I have a '63, are the turn signal rings chrome or stainless and how do you get the lenses out?  I am in a rush and there is a little rust and I would like to get them rechromed.

-Thanks

I just pried off the flange on the backside of the lens, where it was melted over the inside of the trim ring. My trim rings are also cast pieces, with chrome. John

You can heat the rings and push them out. I used boiling water. You could probably use a propane torch if you keep the heat even around the rim.
