I purchased my 89 240 recently and am in the process of trying to get everything working correcty. The previous owner had done some interesting wiring on the car which I have now spent the last three weeks trying to straigten out. One of the last problems I have is that the turn signal blinkers are somehow set to fast all the time like when you have abulb out and he had said he did this intentionally . I heard from a friend of mine that it was a popular mod a couple of years ago but I want to reverse the process.

I have searched the forums but havent found any posts on the subject and currently I am unable to locate the relay to see if the person just rewired it somehow. According to other posts the relay should be under the dash right by the steering column but I cant seem to find it there. If anyone knows how the fast blinking mod is done please let me know so I cant try and reverse it. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

they might of cut some wires from the front.

they should be 3 wires and one is a ground (black)

usually they cut the black (no use) then they cut the other two and reverse them (switching and connecting them)

this is done on both of the two front turn signals

if so... then just reverse them back and connect the ground.

Thanks for the info, I will give that a try and see what I come up with. All of the bulbs work they just blink fast all the time, for some reason the previous owner thought that they were cool, unfortunatly I cant pass inspection with them doing that.

I checked all of the wires going to all of the turn signals and none of them have been cut or modified in any way as far as I can see. I have taken almost the entire dash apart and cant find the blinker relay that according to other posts I have read state that it should be by the steering column. I am now at a complete loss as to where else it would be, I have checked the two relay boxes in the engine bay and it doesnt appear to be there. Anyone have a picture of where it is located ? I found a picture of what it looks like I just cant find it. Thanks.

I am now at a complete loss, I have still been unable to find the blinker relay so based on the information that the common way to do the mod was to switch the two primary wires I tried switching them at the front of the car itself this only made it worse, it now blinks so fast you can barely tell they are blinking. I dont know what I am going to do to fix this at this point, I guess I will have to tear the whole dash appart and trace the wiring to see if I can find anywhere they may have been spliced or cut. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Max

Ok, finally got ahold of the guy that I bought the car from. Found out that he actually replaced the blinker relay with an aftermarket one that causes the blinkers to work fast all the time, I had never heard of such a thing but to each his own I guess. In any case, he had moved the relay from the stock location over to above the stereo. I finally tracked it down and luckily he had left the stock blinker in its location so I have now swapped it back and corrected all of the wiring changes that I had done. All is now good. Thanks to everyone that tried to help. No more electrical issues for the time being.
