Hello everyone. Amateur DIY'r. Let me rephrase, AMATEUR DIY'R! Well, my Q-45 blows! Yesterday, I started my 96 Q-45 and the air was blowing out of my defrost vents at high power (stronger than I've ever felt). I turned the A/C and vent off, and it continues to blow. If I turn the car off, the air stops blowing, but as soon as I turn the car on, it's blowing very strong out my defrost vents. I can turn the a/c or econo on and set it to come out my middle vents, or middle/floor vents, and it will stop the air from coming out the defrost vents...but as soon as I turn them off, it's back coming out the defrost vents. Also, I can set the air power level at its lowest setting and it is almost as powerful as it normally is full power. That made me think a resistor would be fried, but would that account for the constant flow of air, or just the inability to control the power? I've been told by a few people to check the relay switches or the power modular, if any...but thought I'd go to the experts before spinning my wheels. Not to lead anyone down a rabbit hole, but a couple weeks ago I did the driver's side valve cover gasket (12 hours of my life I'll never get back) and I didn't get a hose or something snug, because there is a terrible air leaking sound now. I think it is the gasket that connects the throttle body to the intake plenum, but not sure. I don't think the issues are related, but thought I should mention it. Any help/advice is appreciated, as always!

Its definitely the blower resistor

So the resistor is responsible not only for the different levels of blower power, but also for totalling shutting of blower? I was not aware of that. Should be an easy enough fix. Is it located right on the blower motor? You don't have to answer. I'm just at work right now and can't check. If you don't know off the top of your head, I'll do some snooping when I get home. Thanks!

Great picture! Thanks so much Wes. Last question: Is the fan speed sensor something I should by new, or would salvage route be accpetable? We've got a pretty large yard in town that usually has what I need. Thanks for your insight and opinions!

Just remember WHY the resistor failed in the first place, the fan is drawing too much current... Id at least take the fan apart and lube it up good I did that with mine.. took it apart, cleaned it with electrical parts cleaner, let it dry and then lubed it up good...

A used one might work, but it may not? May be worth a gamble depending on the price... Theyre about $70 new.

I agree. I checked locally and my dealer wanted $91.60. I ordered through Joe for $57 + 15 for rush shipping. Once again. Thanks!

MY Q-45 doesn't blow! You were right Wes . I received the part a day earlier than I thought from Joe and put it in last night. Band aid is in place and doing its job. I'm sure I'll be ordering a new blower motor from Joe in the next month or so, but no more Q-bills for this month. Once again -- Thanks!

If you are not spending $250 a month [or it's eqivalent in junkyard parts] you are underfunding the liability.
