Hi everyone. First of all, love my '09 Altima Coupe 3.5SE. Previous car was '08 Civic Si and the Altima kicks.

One thing that is annoying me a little is that fact that when I just want to switch on the fan for a little air circulation, the A/C will switch on automatically. I can easily push the A/C button to turn it off and just have the fan run but the constant on/off of the A/C can't be good.

Any reasons why this is? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yea, when you use the defroster you should have the A/C on. It doesnt have to blow cold air but the condensor will help remove the moisture much faster then just having the fan on.

That being said it is going on automatically even when you use the other settings, like when it just blows out the dashboard? If so then there is trouble in paradise. . .

That's the problem. I understand that the A/C goes on when defrost is switched on. That part is fine and it works great. However, when the entire unit is off, all I do is turn the fan knob to 1,2,3, etc just to turn on the fan, the A/C is also switched on. Then I have to turn off the A/C because I don't want it on or the defroster. Just plain ol fan circulation.

Should I give Nissan service a shout?

When you select say that the air comes out of the top when you have it totally off, you are saying the A/C comes on everytime? If so that shouldnt be happening. Somehow I think something is getting lost in internet translation here.

Try this next time: instead of switching the knob to 1,2,3..push the any of the 4 buttons surrounding the knob, depending where you want the air..the A/C shouldn't come on this way..I think that's what Rmuth was trying to say..

Yes, let me clarify:

-Let's say my last setting before I turned the car off was No fan, A/C, defrost or rear window defog on at all.-I turn on the car back on and no fan, A/C, etc.... This is normal and expected... all good.-So now I want to turn on the fan only just for circulation. Mild clear day, no A/C and defrost needed.-I turn the fan speed knob on to first setting. The A/C lights up also. But I don't want the A/C running so I have to turn off A/C. <--- This is the problem.

Note: I understand that when defrost is turned on, the A/C turns on. This is fine and works as it should.

-Now, let's say that the fan only is running and I turn off the car with fan on low (no A/C, defrost...).-I go to turn the car back on and the fan is on too with no A/C, defrost, etc. <--Just what I want.

So my concern is, with everything off, I only want fan only running low, the A/C automatically turns on with it the first time. Every time I have to switch the A/C off. I'm worried that this will damage the A/V with the quick on/off all the time.

I will try what "Nicky Altima" suggest tomorrow and report back. Quote »...Try this next time: instead of switching the knob to 1,2,3..push the any of the 4 buttons surrounding the knob, depending where you want the air..the A/C shouldn't come on this way...[/quote]Thanks everyone!

Checking back in now with further testing:

-I turned on my car with fan and everything off.-Pressed one of the vent porting buttons (1 of the 4 surrounding the fan speed knob)-Nothing turned on. Not even the fan. Only the vent button was lit.-Turned the fan speed knob to low speed and the A/C kicked in as usual

-Had to turn the A/C off so that I only get low speed fan (no A/C, defrost, etc) only.
