Hey Nico, want to get some insight from the SR/KAt/and RB guys. I live in AZ and I DD my 240. Looking to swap in a RB and wanted to see how well turbo engines fair in 100+ weather. Probably won't happen until next tax time, but its starting to get hot sooner this year, next might be pretty similar. Thanks in advanced.

turbo engines do not like dead summer heat, or humidity. Your performance will drop drastically compared to a cold/cool and dry day. Make sure your radiator, fans, are in top shape. Don't drive during the day if you don't have to. Drive a beater instead.

I planned on getting a better radiator and a couple of 12 inch fans. Figured that would be the case. I may just look into a VG swap instead, its just RB's are so much easier to do.

Cool. Make sure you do your research on a JDM engine swap especially after the disaster.

find a local importer if you can, that way you can do a visual inspection before you buy

Theres one in Tempe called Akina Motorsports (definitely Initial D reference), but don't know anything about them. Any AZ people have any experience with them?

Larger fanned oil coolers, and coolant aftercoolers really help in any high temp situation.

I've never personally dealt with them, but I've heard nothing but bad reviews.

Thanks OutoWin, I was gonna setup an oil cooler no matter turbo or not. Gonna find your thread to see whats needed.

the way i see it, it is easily hotter under the hood under "real" operating temperature. expecially if its turboed.

even with houstons hot a** 100f+ days, as long as you are using premium, and your tune is good, you shouldnt have any problems.

How much will the intercooler cool the air going to the intake if the ambient temp is around 115F? Obviously, the size of the intercooler makes a difference.

My oil cooler dropped my water temp about 10 degrees and oil about 20 in the summer. When I added a second radiator with a fan tapped into where the heater core would go my water temp went down 15-30 degrees. Permacool fans are also awesome.

Independent tests have shown that the stock clutch fan+shroud setup moves significantly more air than any aftermarket electric fan setup...

Food for thought

I thought about that, but if I swap an RB there wouldn't be much room between the fan and the radiator without major modification to the radiator support or firewall. Unless, if I go the VG route that issue would be easier to deal with.

I'm in southern GA, In the summer its usually 90+ during the day with 99% humidity. I daily drove my SR20 for 2 years with zero problems. It would get to maybe 170-180 sitting in traffic. Just have a good cooling system and you will be fine.

Mine was,

Koyo N-Flow
Dual 12inch Hayden fans (pullers)
Nismo rad cap
Nismo T-Stat
Samco hoses
85/15 Distilled water/coolant
Redline water wetter

Yeah, either way with those motors there's no "stock fan/shroud" anyway so it wouldn't matter. Aftermarket stuff isn't bad, it just tickles me that a lot of KA-T and SR guys spend a few hundred dollars "upgrading" their fan setups from stock to electrics that actually move as much as 30% LESS volume of air. :chuckle: I wish I had the actual article in front of me, I've found a link to it on here before, but it took a lot of searching and I'm tired.

Just cut and move the radiator forward so you can fit the shroud in there. I'd rather keep my car cool and the motor alive.

I tried electric fans but it still gets hot. Also a good intercooler and meth injection will go along way on a hot day.

and the koyo copper radiator is better than just about any other super thick aluminum core radiator.

there was a huge write up someone did comparing all the radiators, and fans.

his link was http://home.satx.rr.com/nissanweb/RadTest/RadTest.htm, but its been taken offline.. what a loss of real hard good information

Thanks for all the info guys. I just hope global warming doesn't come before I swap my motor. Otherwise, I'd be screwed, but so would the rest of the world. ;)
