my friend has 2 turbos from a vr4 laying around his house...how effective would one of those be on a KA? I am thinking it's a little too small, but I am not a turbo guru so I could be wrong :squint

twin turbos on an inline 4 doesn't make much sense... kind of defeats the purpose.

The turbos are 13Bs (about the size of a 8G)... they are really small. They are good on the VR4 because the sequential set-up spools the first turbo at 1800 and the secondary at 3000. Very similar to the 300Z sequential set-up but with more traction.

Ummmm.. ok, I never said it wouldn't work. I remember saying it's kind of pointless, and defeats the purpose. Why don't you ask Subaru why the STi EJ20 (with single turbo) puts out 280 flywheel HP, and ...ahhh the BG5 EJ20 (with twin turbo) puts out... guess what.. 280 flywheel HP. Guess what, as I said.. POINTLESS!!! Oh, and if you want to buy one of these engines, It's about $1500 US dollars more for the TT setup... it's a cool engine and turbo setup, but... as I said kinda pointless!!

One thing that I didn't consider is the fact that they might spool up sequentially, giving a quicker, more even acceleration through the RPMs. I'm sure Subaru designed it for a reason, and I'm sure it works quite well... I still think a larger single turbo makes more sense on ANY inline engine, but Subaru make good cars and engines, no doubt.

I was just playin with ya... anyways sequential set-ups are alot harder to work on and often have boost problems. It is better to run a somewhat larger, in this case a IHI VG30, turbo which will have better effeciency and produce more power. Also compairing an STi motor to a regular motor isnt apples:apples ... more like apples:oranges resembling apples... heheh. Either way point taken. I was just throwing out some stuff... and about the 280Hp bit... Gentlemen's Agreement :asmile

No problem :)

And the apples:oranges that look like apples, rolling on the floor laughing, good analogy! Some times it's fun to fling mud at each other, didn't mean to get so jumpy with ya!
