Most will say the JGS kit is the only one worth looking at. Otherwise, piece your own together.

+1

I boosted my stock ka24e when it had 135K on it. Just check compression and its a good idea to replace the oil pump since they are easy to change (4 bolts) and its good insurance for the whole engine since they start to go bad around 140-150K from what I've seen / read.

Awsome thanks guys for all your help. Ya i did some searching ill probally just piece it togetther using a quality turbo and wastegate but i might go with some cheaper nonname brand pipeing and hopefully a qualitly intercooler depending on the price difference. Ya fortuantly the KA in my 240 has only about 110k miles on it and its been in my family since it was driven off the lot. Haha not to mention my father used to drive it like a little girl which is probally a good thing. I dont even think the poor car got much above 4k rpms for a good 17 years. I will definatly check compression and my seals and rings though and thanks for the heads up on the oil pump. Im guessing ill probally replace the stock fuel pump with a walbro 255. Once again thanks everyone

sounds like you have a pretty good candidate for a light rebuild and a low boost turbo set-up... wait till your daddy gets a ride in his lil' baby ON BOOST! good luck with the build.... PS: did i miss your introduction thread? pics of the car a plus!

Hey guys ya'll are awesome thanks a bunch it always helps to have intelligent kind people on the the fourms. Well unfortunatly the turbo might not be a possibility right now. Im think about keeping it N/A for the time being until I can make enough to maybe get some decent forged internals then do the turboing right instead of worring about money over quality. Maybe some of yall can sway my opinion though. I really don't know if I can piece together a nice package for the money I got atm im basically a starving school kid with very little money to throw around. I have around $1,000 saved in my "car" account and hopefully itll grow to about $1,500 in the coming month or so. What do you guys think about a doing a decent job with that amount? I also threw around the idea of some nice coilover and suspension pieces instead until I know I can do the turboing perfectly since the SOHC is fairly labor intensive on the custom end. Thanks guys again for taking the time to help and post!

Seriously tho I wouldn't waste my time with the SOHC, get used sub 80K KA24DE and turbo that.

Ahh I know! I would have much rather started with the DOHC just because of the cleaner look in the engine bay and there is alot more avalible out there for those KA24DE's. THe only reason im partial to my KA-E is I know everything about its history. Its only got 110,00 miles on it! Plus it was the familys car since it ways driven off the lot new. My parents i dont think ever took it above 4k RPMs and they broke it in properly and maintaine dit right except for the paint ...o well

Why the hate for the sohc? The base hp difference is pretty minimal, and iirc the sohc has a slightly lower compression rating. So what is so bad about it?

hey if the sohc had the same compression as the dohc, what difference would it be now? LOL
