Hey, I'm not sure if this should go in the general section or not, but I'm sure the mods will move me if this post is in the incorrect section. I thought I'd start here because this IS a turbocharging section.Anyway, on to the good stuff. I have a fairly weighty term paper due in english in about a month that's worth probably 15-20% of my final grade...She's a cool teacher (very smart and able to decipher plagiarism), so she's allowing us to do this "isearch" project on anything we want, all of the topics we wish we could learn in school but couldn't. Anyway, since I'll be turbocharging my car in a couple of months, I thought what better way to get a full, comprehensive understanding of the concept than by researching it for a few weeks?

I have to come up with a thesis that I need to prove or disprove, although it can be an essentially expository piece...I'm thinking something along the lines of "the affects of turbocharging on an engine designed for natural aspiration." BUT, I think I could have a better thesis..any ideas?A big part of the project involves INTERVIEWING EXPERTS on the field....so I come here to ask you: Is anyone here an expert on turbocharging/makes a living out of it? If not, does anyone know where I could get telephone numbers/websites/emails for turbo-engineers or development people at say, IHI or Garrett or HKS? I'd need to ask this "expert" at least 20 comprehensive questions pertaining to the effects of turbocharging, etc, so I'd prefer to do this aspect of the project via email...Can anyone help me out with this? I'll be using corky bell's book Maximum boost for one of my book sources, and another tubocharging book I already have for another source.

Any ideas of what else I should include in this project? If no one knows of any experts, would anyone know where I can start looking for one to establish a correspondence with?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Wow... another CT 240sx.... this being in the Turbo KA forum, and you saying you're going turbo, I assume you're trying to join the increasing number of KAt's in CTjust like this pair of zenki s14's:

Anyways, throught my years of edjimukayshun, I've found the best term papers/ essays to be the ones that prove at least one solid point. The thesis on "turbocharging a naturally aspirated engine" would be a peice of cake, where you could go over the positive and negative aspects of it, and determine from there if it's "good" or "bad", using your resources to prove each positive or negative point.

Anyways, I'm not an expert, but I have turbocharged my KA, and know quite a few people in person who have done the same, each going some different route. I could probably answer any Q you have about turbocharging systems, especially those pertaining to the KA24DE engine.

If you want to interview a professional, I'd imagine the best way to go about it would be to e-mail some companies like Turbonetics, Garret, or perhaps even some retailers like http://www.turbochargers.com (there are literally hundreds of turbo retailers). You could probably even reach Corky Bell from http://www.bellintercoolers.com.

Good luck with the project!!

P.S. A bunch of 240's will be at the first NER Solo II event in Ayer, MA. Check out http://www.ner.org or forums.240sxone.com for more information.

Yeah there was a period at the end that got included in the url. I fixed it so it should work now.

The problem with trying to reach turbonetics...you'll get a sales or marketing guy, not an expert.

Ace....you've got mail....I'd love to go the autocross thing but i have lacrosse 6 days a week (games on weekends) so it sorta takes up all my time...also, can I go by myself if I'm 17? Or do I need a parent? What class are you running in with turbocharged 240? Turbocharging an NA car I'm sure is considered a pretty huge modification by SCCA, so I'm sure you'll be running up against all the fully built pure autocross machines...Good luck to all of you though!

How have you passed emissions in CT (if at all) with a t/c?Thanks

One would figure that if they sell turbos, they should know a bit about them. That would suck trying to reach turbonetics asking them about a turbo and having the person on the other line be just as confused as you....

Trying to contact Corky Bell would probably be the best bet for a true expert though.

kind of off topic

damn man, we didn't have to interview anybody. We just had to research. Since I was doing "Why does America get the shaft on import cars?" I got to look at cars online all day for my research:D

back to topic

like the other guys said, call those #'s or email them.

Mike Kojima wrote a book about it. If you need more info ask him the titel of his book at that dead forum.

I hate to bring back up an old post, but the thesis, the main focus of this huge research paper, is due tomorrow. What do you guys think of this for my thesis (excuse its cumbersome sentence structure, that's my trademark writing style :) )

"The beneficial effects of turbocharging a previously naturally aspirated engine, with respect to the design, build, and maintenance of the forced induction setup and specific references to Nissan's KA24DE engine, outweigh the detrimental effects."

Comments? Anyone care to critique it?

does the teacher grade your thesis?

"The beneficial effects of turbocharging a previously naturally aspirated engine, with respect to the design, build, and maintenance of the forced induction setup, outweigh the detrimental effects."

put Nissan's KA24DE engine somewhere else.
