So I found a garrett turbocharger (factory) for a ka24det motor equipped with hotpipe, mani and external wastegate on a t3 flange. and it got me thinking about turbocharging. now my buddy wanted to turbocharge his saturn sl2 (sorry to make a saturn reference) and they told him that he'd have to rebuild his motor. im wondering if id have to do the same b/c I already have stage 2 cams (PDM) with valvetrain to match. so what would i have to do?

You got a KA-T Factory Turbocharger?

My my comprehension is offIm pretty stupid or maybe im just tiredits like 6am here

Nonetheless, i think the KAT section of NICO will be of great help to you in this situation.Im guessing rebuilding is a good idea, but not a prerequisite. Then again ive never even tried to turbocharge an originally natural aspiration engine.

Yeah the KA24E and DE never came in the T version. So I don't know what your talking about there. FInd the specs on the compressor and then ask in the KAT section. If your engine isn't worn I dont see a need to rebuild..... yet.

r you referring to a stock z31 turbo? with aftermarket everything else?

well either way if you want to do it cheap and want around 300-350 hp you don't really need a rebuilt. turbocharging it would probably last you 3yrs + that is only if you have a good tune and maintenance.

if you got the money then go ahead with the rebuild get some new forge pistons and rods. the DOHC has a higher compression ratio stock so if you could lower that to the 8 to 1 range you'll be golden.

Read that link, it will help. I had a t28 running about 7lbs on my dual cam for a little while and it ran great. That was on a stock bottom end and the engine had good compression. As long as the engine is healthy and you run minimal boost you should be fine. Remember though tuning is what is going to make or break you and your car.

Well, you definitely need to do a compression test and make sure you've got good numbers to start with. Also, make sure you fix any leaks you may have and replace worn seals and hoses.

Yeah, I feel ya.. I sold my ^perfect t3/t4, fmic, 2 wastegates, 3" catback, turbo mani., downpipe, and other stuff all for like 200 bucks or so, everything in great working shape, right after I got my stage 2 clutch in.. needed money at the time..

I'm just gonna wait until my motor pops and I rebuild another of my ka's before I start collecting turbo stuff again. Keep it stock besides maybe a pulley or somethin.. see if I can top the 200,000 mark with a strong kick

step one - drain oilstep two - drain antifreezestep three - remove rev limiterstep four - leave a brick on the gaz pedal in neutral

that'll call for a rebuild :P

I only needed a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff to finish it.. fuel pump, fmu..

I'll sell my left nut to keep it all if I could go back in time, but what's done is done. to think I'd be KA F'n-T right now!

Nooo I'm not 'trying' to blow it up lol I can barely afford to take it out to dinner at Shell or Chevron as it is! nah, if something happens to this one I'm probably going to sell it and the other 240's as well. I'm wanting a sedan, a 90+ Cressida. Used to have one until a storm broke a huge limb off a tree and it pummeled the driver side

If your engine runs well then slap everything on there with an FMU and base timing retard.

I'm running my ebay t28 at 10 lbs on an engine that I have never taken the valve cover off of. In a while I'll be running a larger turbo at 10 pounds and I still probably won't take off the valve cover.

It's all about the tune. OP...read the stickies in the KA-T section and you'll be golden.

I know a lot of people use FMU's, but I can not recommend them. I would suggest you save up a little extra money and try to get you something better. I will say that I have no personal experience with FMU's and I know people have used them with success, but I am just saying that it is not something that I would use on my car.

Larger fuel pump, larger injectors, and a re-flashed ecu. There is a guy that I know who does good and inexpensive tunes. You send in your ecu and tell him the mods you will be running and he sends you back your ecu tuned for your setup. Pm me if you want his contact info. That is what I ran on my Ka-t setup.

O yeah, I would also highly suggest you pick up a wideband o2. If you had a wideband and run a FMU a least you could make sure your air/fuel looks okay.
