Wow... your stock rods were HEAVY... I weighed a set of stockers at the shop along with Pauters and Crower and our Turbo240 rod to make some comparisons... The set of stock rods I had weighed 678 grams, Crowers right at 680 and Pauters at 704.... All of our Turbo240 rod sets were weight matched to less than 2 grams and the sets ranged from 599.8 grams to 612.4 grams... Any way you slice it, these rods are WAY lighter than stock or any other rod on the market for the KA...wild_maxx wrote:OH SNAP! i get paid friday so i'll be ordering a set if you still have them if not... i'll send you guys a 50% deposit to hold a set for me.
Question: I just had my rods balanced to my crank, piston ect... the stock rods weighed 702 grams..... Will my machinist be able to shave enough weight off these rods to match the rest of my balance job? Or will i have to re-balance the whole assembly?
Yes and thank you.... To avoid any sort of situation like that again, I personally inspected every one of our rods (9 sets) to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted and were confidant putting our stamp of approval on them.. I weighed each and every rod to make sure the sets matched, visually inspected every rod, removed the bolts from every rod to inspect the fit and threads, measured the big end and small end bores, I even sent them to our automotive machine shop to have them sonic tested... After all that, I even assembled a motor for Chris's car using our new rods to check fit and clearances.... We have done our homework on thisKATwo40 wrote:Hey hey! That makes my wallet happy!
Thanks.
On a side note...you did get to read my apology post a while back, concerning the whole "crower cams" situation, right? Just wanted to make sure you read it.
I spoke with him today... he said rebalancing the entire assembly wouldn't be neccesary because he got the crank to neutral balance with the fly, and pulley on it. He said just make sure all the rods weigh the same weight.Chris@AMS wrote:I'd like to see what your machinist thinks about it actually. I would think that you would want to re-balance the assembly with the new rods. Unfortunatly he wont be able to shave any weight becasue these rods are actually lighter than stock!

Yes, the plan is to have them as our standard rod in the rebuild kits and have the Crowers as an option... The price of the rebuild kits will go down $150 bux... Untill we get them listed in the kits on the online store, please call the shop to order rebuild kits with our new rods...DammitBobby wrote:Hopefully I will be getting my motor out in a few weeks. I was looking at your web site and notice you have the basic rebuilt kit with crower rods. Are you going to offer the same kit with the new AMS rods?
Will the felpro head gasket you offer in that basic rebuilt kit handle 350whp? I am guessing 15 to 20 lbs boost on at t3/t4 with .48ar.
Thanks
DAMN those sold out fast. Glad i got my order in before they were gone.Chris@AMS wrote:A big thank you goes out to everyone who has picked up a set already.
