A friend of mine is buying a 300ZXTT and wants to upgrade the turbo's and I told him about some of the differant options. My question is that you can do the single T78(I think thats what it is) upgrade, what about if you replaced both turbo's with 2 of those?Pro's... Con's.... any Ideas are welcome, and also would you need to do any engine work so it could handle both of them, and if so approx. what would be necessary to run them at 20psi?

twinturbo.net is the place to go, but don't ask any dumb questions about a single turbo, it is impossible, there are several thousand tt owners on that site and they will rip your a** apart for asking that question. Check out sgpracing.com as soon as their site is back up you can see all about upgrades and how much the larger turbos are. There is much more than just replacing the turbos, like the injectors...and don't get the biggest turbos out there unless you plan on doing some head work(cams) and adding nitrous, because full boost doesn't kick in until about 4500 rpms. Also check out jimwolftechnology.com the have all custom turbos made specifically for the Z

A 300zx Motor has a very tight fit. I dont see you putting extra large turbos on that engine with out banging out the "fenders".

A good turbo upgrade for a 300z will cost you around 4 grand just for the turbo's.

tt.net is a great source for info about Z32s. I put a new pair of snails on my Z myself this summer, and couldn't have done it w/o the resources there. There really is nothing like it for any other car that I have seen. The site goes back to 1997, so there are a ton of posts there.

BTW, a single turbo setup would be a very expensive project on the Z32. Because the engine compartment is so tight, and the fact that it is a V6 vs. an inline 6 like the Supra or Skyline, piping would be a nightmare. Not saying that it can't be done, but it would be akin to re-inventing the wheel. It would porbably be of the same difficulty level as squeezing an RB26 froom a Skyline in there, which then could be setup as a single turbo w/ much less effort.

You could put some VERY large turbos on the tt, but you do have do some mods to make sure they fit properly. But, plan on spend about 6500, not 4000. Those suckers are expensive.

You can get the HKS GT2530 kit for <$4000, but you're right - bigger turbos like the Greddy TD05-16Gs are $4500, and there are other larger kits as well (HKS GT2835s, Greddy TD06-20Gs, etc.) that will run way north of that.

Thanks for the advice my friend got a 1990 300ZX and we are going to pick it up this weekend, I think I'll try to talk him into just building the engine and getting a turbo kit for it later.

Thanks guys...

many people at our shop do tt upgrades for the z32's. So far we have had a few people do the gt 25/30's ... One of which put down 555 hp at 26 psi on a bone stock motor. He just ran that high of boost on the dyno. His street settings are aroun 16-17.

The owner of the shop upgraded to greddy 16g's on is and put down 575 hp at 17psi, which is now the most powerful 300zx in america at that boost level. Nothing on the car is stock.

And later when the car is done, we hope to smash that power with a guy named chris who is a huge customer. his Z is still waiting on parts (HKS seq. tranny). He is going to be using gt28/35's. Should be interesting dyno figures.

anyways, i personally like the 25/30's becuase they spool so damn fast and still makre large amounts of power. some guy had two on ebay for 1000 dollars for the pair. Off of a skyline in japan.
