So I have the s14 with an s13top redtop. Its stock with the exception of the FMIC. In any case, it looks like my turbo is done for so I am looking to upgrade. I want quick spool up and it does not have to make loads of power. I have the read that the gt28rs (disco potato) is a great bet and it bolts right on to the sr20. Now my question is if i do get this turbo, what else would i be looking at upgrading? I know i would have the replace the manifold gasket but what else would i have to do? I am talking about other upgrades.

Thanks

Luke

Hey, this is a good question, but the place to post this would be 240tech or SR engines. I really cant give you any help other than saying this wll be moved to one of the aformentioned topics in the morning.

Good Luck!

This is a pretty well covered topic.

But I'll be kind.

You need to look at your end power goals with whatever turbo you end up going with and base upgrades off that. If you're going over the stock power output, you will need to upgrade your fuel management (MAF, injectors, ECU). Also, you'll have to modify your intake piping as the DP doesn't use the stock equipment.

Look at Sport Compact Car's project car section. Dave Coleman did an article years ago that should still be hosted on the site concerning an upgrade to the DP.

I would go with a S15 spec-r turbo or a GT2871 0.64 trim. The latter spools slightly slower but offers better high end. The S15 turbo spools just as fast as the S13 oem turbo, but is slightly more efficient (more power).

Its really all in what you want. Ive found the 2871R .64 to be incredibly responsive. Pulls hard from 3500+rpm. Ive never been one to be satisfied with power so id suggest going large.

I'd also choose on one that's rebuildable, so you don't have to shell out $1000 or more every time it goes.

read both Codyace's 400hp build thread

or idahotuners build thread.

its all there, and they're helpful with the questions.

GT series turbos last a long time. I had over 20k miles in 3.5 years on my 2871R and was pushing over 20psi most its life with zero problems. Someone else has it now and its still running perfectly fine.

That's good to know about the 2871. I have about 5000 miles and 18 months on mine and it has never seen less than 18psi since the car was tuned in march of 07.

By the way drifterprodigy, you're putting down some pretty sick numbers with the T67 and solid lifters. You have tomie 270 cams? How high are you revving it and how do you like the big top mount setup compared to your 2871?
