I wired it through a relay into the kick down switch. When I go full throttle it opens the dropping resistor. Much better. I do get the "transmission malfunction" next time I start the engine tho. No biggie, it goes away after a few seconds.

I've still been tuning the car a bit just about every day. Toying with 9 psi and it was working pretty well today. Over the weekend I changed my boost controller and i was getting it adjusted today. Well on the way home from work I had just pulled over and turned down the boost and got back on the road. I punched it and boost came up to about 8 and then POP! In an instant, I got the abnormal sound, boost shot up to about 14-16 PSI, then motor cut out, I assume because I maxed the MAF. Crap...

I pulled over to assess the damages. While coming to a stop I could hear a strange clanking sound. I counldn't narrow that down but the engine was fortunately running great still. I'm assuming I broke the diff, driveshaft, half shaft, etc. Couldn't tell so I moved on to why boost shot up. I had blown off the wastegate and the bov hoses. The wastegate at that point just shut off and boost was allowed to rise freely

I got home and with the help of my son figured out that I had snapped a wheel stud on the rear passenger side wheel and it was rattling around in the wheel cap. I currently have the chrome wheels from my old Q45a on the rear of my car because I needed some tread.

So, I need some better clamps for my hoses and a new wheel stud. I was pretty worried for a while but I think all is well. Luckily it was just a couple minor issues. I tell you what, those wastegate hoses aren't coming off again, I'll see to that! That could have been extremely bad....

Oh well, that's the risks you take pushing the limits! BTW, it's freakin fast The tune was running pretty good at 9 psi and I was spinning these new tires like it was my old bald ones. Can't wait until I get the 4.08 in here. I'll be fishtailing down the road everywhere I go. LOL

Wow. I bet it was relieving to find you'd only broken a wheel stud!

Glad it wasn't anythign serious.

Probably a good idea to replace all the studs on which ever rear end you plan on having in the car long term. Given the increased stress you're going to be placing on the drive line, you should probably replace any and everything .

Looks like a total blast to drive. I'm a HUGE fan of alcohol injection, I've been tinkering with it since 99ish. I started out with a single stage like you have now except all I had was a MSD Knock Alert and boost gauge. It worked ok but was far from ideal. I on the other hand was running 100% methanol because the meth was a fuel source as well as detonation avoidance. But to run the amounts of boost I wanted, 25+ psi, I had to set up a multi stage/nozzle kit. Basically the same as you now have but with 2 more pressure switches/solenoids/nozzles. This way I could run a metric ton of boost without the bog effect. This was on my Skyline BTW, just a RB20. So the little inline 6 would bog pretty easy if to much fuel was injected.

Then I found variable controllers, wideband O2 sensors and learned to tune via LAMBDA instead of AFR's. Since everything has a stoich of .8 LAMBDA I didn't have to worry about the various afr's for different fuels etc. Which let me play with toluene, xylene and methanol.

Check these dudes out Devils Own. When I build my next kit I'll be using this controller.

I'm totally down to assist with the tuning etc if you ever need a second opinion.

That sounds like an awesome setup. I like that controller as well. I've worked with motor controllers and was thinking about setting one up to be controlled by the MAF but $145 isn't too bad for one that's already setup to do that. Maybe down the road I'll need something like that. For me to run any more boost I'm going to have to modify the MAF and get bigger injectors. I might be able to push it to 10 psi but I am about at the limits of my current setup.

Where can I read more about your projects?

I wasn't a member of Nico back then. I mostly got my info from the GN boards and off of Skylines Down Under. My current project car has been broken forever now, tossed rod in a 240.

The Skyline project was full of blown motors But since they were $200 from the junkyard it wasn't a big deal. I was all about maxing out the stock parts before swapping them out and retuning etc.

I maxed out my MAF and my injectors with no problems. But like I said, I was using the meth as a fuel source. Although nowadays man...who can afford to. I'd probably use E85 in a 5 gal trunk mounted tank.

I've also been reading up on propane injection. A multi stage kit when tuned for lambda would rock IMO. No more worries about equal distribution and it's super cheap in comparison. I have an old K5 Blazer I have always wanted to convert to propane, with gas prices hitting 4 bucks a gallon I might as well just do it.

*EDIT*Just for safeties sake you should build a boost cut switch that kills spark and or fuel if the boost goes beyond whatever preset limit you have. Here's a link to the one we use on the 240. Overboost ProtectionWD

I'm definitely going to do that overboost protection. That is a fantastic idea. I already have one Hobbs switch to activate the methanol. I'll need to pick a suitable circuit to disable. I think I'll just find the 12V source for the two ignitors and kill them upon overboost.

Thanks for the link. Simple idea but sometimes you overlook the simple things.

Totally man, I wish I had that idea a few years ago myself. Got a link to your original build up? I'm wondering about the oil return pump and design you used. I was going to use a Mocal diff cooler pump. Remote boost is the way to go nowadays IMO. Especially on cars like the 350Z and G, since they like the Q have zero underhood room. I could easily do this on my Blazer!!!

I'm sold on the remote turbo setup. Any potential drawbacks have solutions but I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I suppose if you were doing a full blown race car a front mount would be beneficial but for a normal daily driver you can make some serious power with a rear mount.

Here my original build thread. I've made quite a few upgrades since I updated this thread but most of them are posted on this one or over in the VH forum talking about ECU tuning.zerothread?id=281662

Also, I came across this link looking for something else. Thought you'd find it useful since you are talking about propane conversion

I've seen a few cool 350's with rear mounts. There's one good video somewhere, if I can find it I'll post it.

Found that 350Z remote turbo video, it's an STS kit.

Awesome work man. Makes me grin like a school girl watching the RPM jump during boost.
