So I'm replacing my turbo mainfold gasket and when trying to unbolt the turbo from the manifold there's a bracket that seems to be there to make sure the nuts (from the turbo to the manifold) lock. The only thing is, it's in the way. I cant get my wrench on the nut cause of the bracket. I've been able to bend the bracket on all but 1 which is the one closest to the front of the car and nearest to the engine.

Any of you guys that have switched turbos, how did you get this bracket off? Do I need the bracket anyways?

i used a screwdriver and a hammer to pry them up. Didn't give me any problems. I also choose to re-used them. I do know which one your talking about though. That one is a ***** to get a wrench on.

did you pull the mani/turbo assembly off of the car or are you doing this with everything attached to the block. If the latter, you may want to pull the whole thing off. It makes like easier.

Second off, lock tabs are evil. Search for my post on that if you care to see my true feelings :D Screwdriver and hammer are how I bend mine out of the way, and when you go to reinstall, either don't put antiseize on the nuts, or use locktite. But if you decide to reuse the locktabs (which I do recommend. they're nice insurance from having to pull that crap out of the car again to replace a blown gasket), take a wrench (14mm works best if i remember correctly since the nuts are 13mm) and use a hammer to reshape the tabs to the shape of the nuts. Then take a punch and use it to tap a dimple into the tab and nut, that should prevent it from ever wanting to let that nut vibrate out.

good tip.

hell, could you even do that with it still in the car? i don't think it would even be possible.

if you had triple jointed elbows, you could get 3 of the 4 nuts with it still in the car. But since you've more than likely drained the motor of coolant and disconnected the feed and exit lines, why not take the time to pull the exhaust manifold and make sure the job's done right.

So just to take the manifold off do I have to take out the whole turbo or would it be possible to take the manifold off the block then the turbo and put it back on the same way without removing the turbo?
