I just bought a 95' nissan 4x4 hardbody pickup with the ka24E motor.... i already had 2 kaE-t in my 240.... so of course i was thinkin of turboing this truck before i even bought it

I was talking with a tech about doing the turbo setup and he pretty much said no point in doing it because of the heavy weight of the truck and a turbo would put to much strain on the motor if haulin stuff, off roading ect.....

He reccomended i just put in a bit higher comp. pistons and a better cam for about 30 hp or so and better low end torque....

question is... i do wan't to do some off roading and i will be hauling stuff with this truck so would a turbo be a bad idea? i just wan't a good 200 hp setup, small t3... bigger injectors (nothing overkill) maybe a FMIC i already have a safcII and wideband to tune, and a turbo manifold & DP. make an exuast system...

Or just rebuild it with 10:1 pistons and an oem rebuild and call it good? i want this motor to last a while....

Why not just a t25 non intercooled, T3 at biggest. You are just looking for low end grunt, right? So it seems like a bunch of headaches to make a big project of it. Just run a T25 at low boost w/o cooler, and your low end will be better.

You should do it....make sure it's a low compression motor...so you can boost it...

You could run a 240sx intake manifold but you would need a small port. The small port head is better than the 94+ ka24e truck head.

and if turbo are bad for HEAVY TRUCKS THAT HAUL STUFF why is almost every production diesel truck turbo ??? Also i dont think you can get heavier or tow more than a big rig (also turbo).

Hell man i say DO IT

The big port heads started with the 94 d21, port flange shape is a tad larger and there are protrusions in the port tract to help build more velocity at lower rpms (sort of like a replacement for the swirl valves built into the ports).

This would cover 94-97 d21 with side feed injectors, the cylinder heads from 89-90 240, 90-92 stanza/access, and 91-93 d21 are are small port and functionally identical despite the 91-93 d21 head being cast in mexico.

because without it, it wouldnt go anywhere, lol

but seriously, i dont think the problem is whether turbos can be used for hauling or not, it's whether a motor that was originally designed n/a can handle boost for extended periods of time reliably

Depends on the truck. I really want to turbo a truck with the KA24e in it. I think it would be fun. Also it depends on what you want to do with the truck off-road also. I come from an extensive off road background, so it depends what you want. If your on the rocks, and dictating slow trails where RPM. are low, and where where finesse is key. I wouldnt turbo it. However if you plan on going in some mud, or sand then turbo is a great way to go. Higher RPMS's are needed here, so the turbo would be spooled. If it just an occasional wheeler and mostly street truck. I would go for the turbo. Good luck man.. Im looking forward to your decision/progress. -lyons

I assume that it is intercooled. Where is Mt. Grove?

i think i will go ka-t on this truck . i will do a top mount setup just to be sure i don't accidently dip the turbo in a mud puddle or anything like that. this is a ways away from doing but i just want an idea if it will be usefull or not.

just turn the boost down if you want to haul something...

slightly related - those old GMC syclones or typhoon turbo trucks (s10?) are pretty ****ing cool. i'd do it with a small t3.

Definately, this may seem counterintuitive, but keep in mind as load increases timing will be advanced but the engine will also come onto boost. And KA-BOOOM KA.

That is so true. I have grenaded many turbos and engines.....
