I want a 240 that has enough horses to beat your average honda civics with vtech and all that BS. Would it be better to turbo my SOHC or get a DOHC and turbo that one. Any responses would help

a sohc ka is better just because it has lower compression then the dohc but there is a fully built automatic s14 ka24det out there running 9s so its really your prefrance if you wanna keep in relayable id say go single its strong enuf to just slap a turbo on there with light tune and go

It will cost you less to swap in an engine that is already turbo like an Rb or an SR. im not a very big fan of the SR because of its poor head design. although if you set on keeping the KA go for the twin cam

all the JGS kit is, is the manifold, downpipe, wastegate, dump tube, and oil lines, you will still need the turbo, intercooler(and piping), fuel system(pump, injestors, and FPR), engine management, and finish off the exhaust, and the JGS starter kit is $1700.....

You should be able to take care of the average rice wagon with a dohc and the balls to slam the gears but if your dead set on boost go with sr. They are more likely to last and can take alot of punishment. boosting a sohc or dohc many seam cheeper but you likely to be jumping into a money pit with little satifaction. look up 'true pig build' in the tech forms. he's boosing a sohc and its been a while and still haveing problems. will what ever you choose do it right and dont over speend, and remember friends dont let friends drive rice lol Good Luck!

boosting the ka24e isnt the preferred choice by nissan owners but thats definately not to say that it cant be dont or that it hasent been done already. the ka24e is just as boost happy as most other nissan motors. however you will need to vastly improve its head flow to really get your moneys worth, ie bigger valves, porting, high lift cam, ect. your next cheapest route is a flip of a coin between buying a used sr20det and droping it in stock, or building a ka24DE and boosting that. both will run you arround 2500, both should hold up to a moderate boost level (arround 10lbs without major modification.) and both will be enough to lay waste to your standard civic or accord. really it all comes down to how much money and time you have. search for budget builds here and you will come up with some cool stuff to look at. alternatively you can pop over to KA-T.org thay specialize in boosting the ka series motors and nothing else.

okay...if your dead set on turboing your ka, leave the one you have in the car weither its dohc or sohc. and yes it is cheaper to do an sr swap. but like what has been said the ka is a bigger motor. Lumski is right...I have been finding problems with mine everyday, some small some big. granted the average ka-t'er wont see many of these problems i have due to their power goals. look up places like amsperformance, and jgstools. really those are all you need for the main components. of course there is going to be other things to purchase. But if there is one thing i cant stress enough...dont listen to people running there mouth with technical mumbo jumbo, real numbers dont lie, so look for the facts because there is a thing called a bandwagon and it has made some stops in the past. my sohc was very reliable at low boost 8-10 psi but now shooting for 20psi it has some bugs to work but when finished will take it and love it. Never has my head flow ever come into effect. or the need for larger valves or porting. There is a page on here where a guy did a flow chart of ported head before and after. I definetly would be spending the money else where. SO take that point as to what im saying...dont listen to all of these internetsawitinmagazinereadingtechnicians...WORDS LIE, RESULTS DONT. if it wasnt for my wastegate line popping off id be pulling over 400hp/tq TODAY . Ill be posting my final dyno chart in my true pig build. before it popped, at 2700rpms i had 120hp 115tq and at 4200rpms 315hp and 316tq with a finish of 334hp 331tq at 13 psi and lumski i know its taken so long but its because there was a 9 month deployment in there and lots of training
