I have an 03 touring edition Z and i am looking to put about 5-7 grand into it. My brother is a professional mechanic so no job it too large. I was curious as to if anyone has had any experience with turbos in these cars and any suggestions they could make. Currently we are looking at the garrett ball bearing GT3582R turbo w/ a standard intercooler. Hopefully making around 450 HP and 380 WHP. Any suggestions or concerns that i should know will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With 5-7k you could get bolt on turbo kits. There are many to choose from, all adding tremendous horse power, as safe as possible. These kits are engineered for the car specifically. Usually tuned between 5-10 lbs. of boost, to prevent detonation and increase reliability and durability. Now if your looking for a single turbo set up you want the Turbonetics. It has supplies more HP for the $$$. The kit is gonna run you about $4800 on turbo-kits.com. If your looking for twin turbo application (probably most popular), there are many to choose from that are great. I would personally stay away from the greddy setup : low boost, small turbo's with no room for power, but is not that expensive. GReddy would run you about $5500-$6000 (check me on that). JWT twin turbo set up (Jim Wolf Technologies) has significant power increases but is a little more expensive, to those who have it its worth it. JWT makes good stuff and specializes in Nissan. Another option is APS, they have a twin turbo setup and a single turbo set up. The single set up is gonna cost more than the turbonetics setup for about the same power. The twin set up from APS is probably one of the more powerful ones along with the JWT, but is gonna cost you about $7000.

As for me, i plan to go with the Turbonetics single setup when ever i get the money. I was quoted $6800+tax for install, but that includes the UTEC and complete tuning.

Check all the posts you can find. Single turbo setup appears to be the safest bet. At around 7 LB. boost it should live. Everybody that has went twin turbo gets that need for more horsepower. Without building the internals, It can lead to engine failure. The ball park figures for twin turbo has been around 14 to 16k because of having to build the engine. If you do the twin set up, don't build the internals, the end result can be much higher than the 16k.
