so ive been searching this forum, but finding stuff about smogging is kinda dif****alt. im planning on turboing my KA, like ive got the set up, it will only be pushin around 200 rwhp. my buddy says (with the set up i have) it will pass numbers on smog. meaning it will pass the sniffer. but it wont pass visual, so i was wondering what to do about that. im in California in the bay area. if anyone knows how to get around that, somewhere near, i mean sacramento is fine. i wanna make sure i can get it smogged

it will fail visual test. so what's the point of doing smog if it's not gonna pass? it's not easy to hook up all the emission stuff with turbo.

You might pass with old greddy turbokit (one without fuel management), but since it got no fuel control, your motor will blow.

if you know the right place, they won't even care about visual as long as you pass the sniffer.

register it in WA. also it passing depends alot on the part throttle cruise a/f's and timing. here in wa i recently got a full build starion w/ custom log intake manifold, no emissions crap under the hood what so ever big 16g huge intercooler etc to pass. now keep in mind the guy opened the hood to hook up the ign feed to the coil packs and he never said a word about it.

well i heard running a SAFC2 will help out the a/f ratio and make it tollerable or w/e. like make the emissions better

Yes, you can pay and cut corners, but the fact of the matter is that ANY vehicle can legally PASS emissions testing regardless of engine modifications. Turbo, boosted or high compression, ANY engine in ANY car can meet and exceed the required California emissions mandates.

LEGALLY SMOG YOUR SR20 OR RB26 SWAP! wrote:
How to: LEGALLY SMOG ANY ENGINE SWAP:

The best way to SMOG your ride is the legal way! We legally pass the vehicles using CNG/LPG/propane gas. The vehicles are slightly modified and passed on propane, and then, upon the owners discretion, changed back to regular pump gasoline, there are no permanent modifications done to the vehicle, the turnaround is about 4-6 hours.

We will gladly explain the conversion process to anyone who would like to convert their own vehicles, please feel free to email us at: [email protected] with any questions. Any engine can be legally smogged and registered. Turboed, supercharged, high compression JDM race motors, SR20DET's, KA24-T's, RB26's, any engine in any car.

If u got an obd1 (s13) with a lets say an s15 or gt2871r turbo and an AFC u can pass pretty easily. Well I can since I got no visual testing.

Yes, any engine can meet and exceed the required emissions mandates, but visual is still another big hurdle, unless the proper legal loopholes are used to complete the registration process.
