Haha I'm a lazy sob.

Garrett Super 60 with 60AR compressor housing, 48AR turbine housing, and a super 60 trim compressor wheel.

Or...

Garrett T3 with 42AR compressor housing, 48AR turbine housing, and 60 trim compressor wheel.

Which one would be better for my bottom mount t3 setup? I'm a sucker for quick spool time, my t28 hits 10 lbs at like 2500 rpm and I love it. Bottom mount means not a whole lot of room, but I honestly won't know what I'm working with until I take the engine out and start fabbing stuff.

How will each one behave on a KA? I have no idea what A/R means so I'm here to be educated.

Thanks.

A/R stands for area devided by radious. defined as the inlet cross-sectional area divided by the radius from the turbo centerline to the center of that area.

dude go to turbobygarrett.com and read tech 101 through 103. it helps alot.

Awesome, I read it and now I understand A/R. My question now is what will be best for a KA?

I'm only looking for maybe 300 hp max. Would the .42 compressor housing be too much of a restriction at higher rpm? I love having power down low, while drifting it's a lot easier to have power throughout a gear than to only have it at the top of my rev range. Since I also daily my car I still want something that spools relatively fast.

I heard somewhere that A/R sizes differ between t2 and t3 housings...is this true?

.42 ar compressor on a t3 is wayyyy too small, def go with .60 if you have to choose between the two.

ar does vary with t2/t3/t4, the smaller the housing the smaller the ar- even if it's the same number- i.e. T2 .63 ar is alot smaller than T3 .63 ar

Maybe you should just get a gt2871r .6x or .8x and call it a day.

It's bottom mount, bolt on for t2 flanges, no much more fabbing, and great spool.

The Super 60 in .48AR is a great turbo. No lag and able to support over 300whp. Since they come internally gated it's a great choice for your bottom mount SSAC T3 project...that is if you're still going with that idea.

I'm going with the T3/TO4B with a .48AR hotside. I just needed a compressor that would support a little more power or I'd be using the S60 myself.

Lazy SOB...lol.

Yeah, but I kinda want to stay away from the gt series turbos because they are pretty pricey and I would need to fab water lines. I'd rather go with a t3 because it means more room for upgrade-ability in the future. I'm welding on a t3/t4 flange so in the future I might flip the manifold, add bracing, and go top mount t4 with the same manifold.

Plus bottom mount t3 is different haha.

Awesome, this is great news. I also like the fact that they come internally gated, makes using the ssa manifold a lot easier.

Next question: As long as I keep the boost down (5 psi), think my 370cc's would be able to handle the new turbo? I will eventually get re-tuned for 740cc's and my z32 maf, but I don't have the cash to drop on larger injectors now.

Maybe I'll just ride out the blown t28 and buy everything at once.

If you're on a budget go with the Super 60... but you won't have much room to grow with that manifold, the runners are too small and you'll need a big wastegate anyway, yada yada yada

that wasn't pushing it too hard. I loved that turbo, I actually kind of miss it now that I have my gt35 turbo. lag is a b****.
