If you have enough play that you want to measure it then you should start saving for another turbo.

Ballbearings will have a very little bit because their design (both mine have less than 1mm, you can hear it move but you can't see it), journal bearings should almost have zero.

Once again a question that the FSM would answer for you, had you made the effort to look.

1. Buy a cheap indicator from harbor freight

2. Learn how to read your newly purchased cheap indicator

3. Remove oil drain line and/or fitting

4. Stick indicator shaft in the hole (LULZ) up against turbo impeller shaft

5. Rotate shaft slowly and record the total travel distance of the indicators dial

Congratulations, you've measured shaft play for whatever reason knowing a number is important.

For endplay put the indicator shaft in the rear end (LULZ x 2!) up against the center bolt of the exhaust turbine and slowly push and pull the impeller rotor forward and backward and record the total travel distance of the indicators dial. One tip for getting an accurate reading on endplay: Zero your indicator face when you reached the end of forward or backward travel and then the face will read total runout instead of you having to crunch those tricky addition and subtraction thingermobobbers.

radial and axial shaft play, take a dial indicator and measure perpendicular and 90 degress from shaft and it will tell you.

on a side note does any one know what manufactures spec on shaft play, there will be a few thou...
