I would retard it.

If you dont, you will be running anywhere from 27 to 25 degrees timing approaching redline @ full load.

well first off don't just run everything like crazy the second you get it. there is debate on how much breaking in is required for things, but i'd drive at least 500 miles without boosting up much, and definitely not taking it to redline.

once things are broken in well then you need to worry about whether or not the timing is going to screw you. people have bad experiences with leaving the timing alone and running on stock ecu with an fmu. i have seen more than one occasion of someone blowing up their engine because the did not retard the timing. so regardless of whether or not it is possible just do it because you don't want to toast your new engine. once you have an upgraded fuel management (better electronics or madified stock board) with different timing maps then it's not a concern, but for now just be careful and retard it the reccommended amount (1/2 degree per psi over atmospheric pressure i believe)... so if you're running 7 psi then retard ~3.5-4 degrees.

i will definitely say that if u couldve afford to have that engine built, u can definitely afford injectors. Dont even bother wasting ur time with an FMU for a built engine......As for timing, it really depends on boost level. Under 8psi, they say that u can run stock timing. I would retard the timing tho cuz it really isnt worth the extra HP if u could be doing damage to the engine. Last but not least tune tune tune. That really is the key to the longevity of ur motor...........

No need to retard timing if you are only boosting to 8psi with an FMU.

The rule Ive heard is to retard base timing 0.5-0.75 degrees per psi of boost when youre running over 8psi.

Probably a dumb question, but if youre running 10psi, does this mean you would retard 5degrees (0.5 x 10psi) or 1 degree (0.5 x (10-8psi))??

Do you retard 0.5* for each psi of total boost or 0.5* for each psi over 8psi?

Yep that is correct but the funny thing is I have not retarded my timing at 10psi and it is working fine.

haha

anyone know??? when you retard timing, assuming you are okay to leave timing alone for up to ~8 psi, when you do adjust it past 8 psi do you just turn it back 1/2 degree for every psi past 8, or for total psi...for example if i run 10 psi do i turn it back 5 degrees, or just 1 degree?

i would say 1 because you can run 8psi with out retarding it so .5 after 8 per psi to be safe thats how i understood it

it makes sense, but i mean just because it's "safe" to run stock timing up to 8 psi doesn't mean that the adjustment after 8 psi will be safe with only 1/2 degree per psi... i don't know maybe i'm just paranoid...
