Definitely turbo seals. My car is doing that right now, burning about 1 quart of oil everytime I drive it. Part of the problem is the 270* thrust bearing instead of the 360* thrust bearing. The 270* wears out too fast if you daily drive the car. Also make sure you have the right size feed and return lines.Tims_240 wrote:well first off my car poors out smoke when i rev it up and then let off real quick or when i come to a sudden stop real fast.but the thing is, it doesnt do it while im driving 90 mph on the highway.....
i personally think my turbo seals are blown, but im not sure, there is Some oil that i can feel around the bov, on my hot pipe but nothing extreme.
i checked my turbo shaftplay the other day, and its not bad side to side but front to back its getting pretty bad... its about 1/8" - 1/4" play from front to back.
the turbo is a t3/t04e purchased from boooooooostdesigns (thats probably a problem in itself) but it says garret on the exhaust side, but doesnt say anything on the compressor side, no label no nothing, im thinking boost designs ****ed me (wouldnt be a surprise)
so i think that might be my problem, what you guys think? new turbo time?-tim
The turbo needs to get rebuilt, not just seals replaced. http://www.phoenixturbo.com, Ken quoted me $300 to rebuild my t3/t04b with the 360* thrust bearing. So I ended up just buying a new turbo from them for a few hundred more and got an upgrade...t3/t04e 57 trim .63a/r with the 360* thrust bearing.Tims_240 wrote:actually, instead of buying a new turbo, how much do you think it would be to get the turbo seal replaced, and get 360 deg. thrust bearings put in it?wouldnt that solve my problems?thanks-tim
That's a lot of shaft play...too much.Tims_240 wrote:well first off my car poors out smoke when i rev it up and then let off real quick or when i come to a sudden stop real fast.but the thing is, it doesnt do it while im driving 90 mph on the highway.....

yah thats his favorite thing to do, hahaMarkEmark wrote:That's a lot of shaft play...too much.
But a better question is, why do you drive your car 90 mph after see smoke billowing out of it at lower speeds?!? Do you feel like being stranded on the side of the highway????
damn, thats suckswild_maxx wrote:I was also sold a BD turbo. Mine has "turbo ZY" on the compressor housing and garrett on the turbine housing. I boosted 17 psi and one of the compressor blades chipped off and went throgh my motor. I am starting my 3rd ka build
