that is what turbos do. Mine gets loud once the boost hits. And if I am cruising and there is no boost, it isnt loud. Soon as I step on teh gas, it starts screaming again. An acquired taste. That is a good thing. :ylsuper

Turbos scream at the top of their boost levels. It's totally normal.

what kind of screaming? Is there any difference in power(feels like torque drops)? Turbo spool should sound more like a high pitch hiss. If there is a bog in power associated with it, check your plug gap. If it just shrills, you may have an exhaust leak between the turbo and the manifold.

You might have a bad turbo. The previous owner might have beat the crap out of that motor. Try checking the turbo's bearings. Take off the intake pipe, put hand pressure on the turbo's mainshaft and spin it. If the fins touch the sides of turbine housing's wall (pressure and spinning at the same time) then the bearing is toast. Also look for grinding or chaffing marks on the housing or broken fins. If so turbo rebuild or upgrade time. If not just enjoy that SR turbo feelin'.............

I remember driving my friends supra. His had the same problem but a lil diff. This things got 800 to the GROUND at 29.2psi! STUPID FAST. I had to turn the boost down to 18psi just to drive it. Anyways, i remember taking off and hearing "SCREEEEEEEEAAHAAAAAHH" It would even do it between shifts, but louder! At first i thought it was the sound that tires make when they are being punished! "SCREEEEEEEAAAHHHHA!" Then i noticed an "OH MY GOD!" between shifts, and i was like, ..."that's not the turbo?" it was just my girlfriend in the passanger seat. She looked like a ghost!..hehe. She said she tried get my attention to stop me but she couldn't reach forward.....hehe. "cant move...to scared." :eyecrazy

On the serious side: Yes, check the bearings. I personally don't OWN a turbo but my friend is like the guru of all thats boost. If you're getting efficient boost there shoulnd't be a problem unless its internal (engine). I'd at least get it checked out, cuz nothing just "gets better" in an engine. If you don't take care of something it WILL let you AND YOUR POCKET BOOK KNOW! Keep an eye on yer exhaust temp gauge. That can also tell you alot. If it gets HOT when the torque drops, then there's somethin wrong with yer fuel or fuel system. Could just be set too lean but i personally would check it out. <<Tom>>
