So for about a thousand dollars I am picking up a 76 z. It come with an 82 turbo motor that has been rebuilt for more power. But I need to get a turbo, intercooler, ecu and harness, and a flywheel. I can get everything but flywheel from a guy here. I can't seem to find a turbo flywheel but the only site that I know of is the a store. I'm going to be running it close to stock for now but I need a lightened flywheel. It has a act state 2 clutch according to the guy. I get to look at it when the rain stops and we can take the car cover of it. Any help as to where I can get a decent flywheel would be nice.

Will get pics up soon. Only rust is a small bit of surface rust on passenger door.

keep in mind that the turbo flywheel and clutch is the same as the 2+2 (240mm) and that stage 2 act cluthc is for the 240mm? or is ti for the 225mm? you can run the smaller cluthc and flywheel it just doesn't have the holding capacity

ultrarev.com has some of the best deals I've found for lightweight flywheels and performance clutches, and if you phone in your order I've heard fo them waiving shipping for first time customers

and don't forget the turbo fuel pump!

for an intercooler I highly recomend a vertical clow treadstone, and if you are running an intercooler it's far dorm stock, a good intercooler and reduce intake temps by 100 degrees!

the stock engine managment and injectors are the limiting factors, 250whp is max for stock injection

here is my turbo s30

It has supra 440 cc injectors and custom rail. It's not 2+2and it's a 4 spd transmission. It's got a walbro 255 lph pump. I'm not shooting for no high hp yet so it's just gonna be stock ecu but I'm looking into megasquirt. Also the transmission, I dunno if it's earlier or if itts from 82. Either way will it run either clutch, turbo and non turbo.

stock ecu is gonna have a hard time keeping up with the bigger injectors.

the stock ecu will nto work wil those injectors, at least not well, it'll be pig rich, and most likely fuel fowl the spark plugs, stock ecu is meant to be sue with stock flow injectors, when you put in larger injectors the ecu keeps the same duty cycle which results in lots of extra fuel

I did't say your car was a 2+2, I was trying to point out that the 2+2 uses the same flywheel and clutch as the turbo, so if you can't find a turbo flywheel, the 2+2 flywheel is the same thing

if your trans is a 4 speed there are only 2 versions, the 70-71.5 and the 71.5-78 versions, the realy one is kinda rare so I'd bet you have the later style, any datsun L6 trans will work with any Datsun L6 clutch and flywheel

Its not a turbo or 2+2 model so will the turbo motor run the smaller flywheel? I know you didn't say mine was I think I just worded stuff backwards. And I've decided to run a mega squirt setup. How do I tell what year the motor is.

yes you cna run the smaller clutch and flywheel on the turbo motor but it'll have a hard tme holding anythign mroe than stock boost levels

as for the year of your donor motor, the 81 used a crank mounted cas, the 82-83 used an optical distributor, so if you have a wire harness coming out the bottom of your distributor is's the 82-83 model, if you have a crank mounted trigger wheel, you have the 81 model, thats the only real difference

For megasquirt check out http://www.msefi.com. Lots of info there. It also has links to other helpful sites.

If nobody has mentioned this before and if you're not already a member check out hybridz.org. It's got tons of information on virtually every swap/combination done to a Z car.

the 5 speed turbo trans is the T5, you'll need a custom driveshaft made, assuming your car was a factory manual trans it had the R300 diff, you can swap over the pinion flange fomr the donor take your shaft to a shop with diminsions have them cut it down, the yoke should be about 1 inch from bottoming out in the trans as rest

the megasquirt swap is amazing simple....i live in marietta, ga and drove up to the diyautotune shop and spoke to matt in person and they are some of the most helpful shops that i know of they are willing to help you with any of your questions on the l28et with megasquirt....matt did a full write-up on installing it into an 82-83 l28et...here is the linkhttp://www.diyautotune.com/tec...o.htm

im installing megasquirt into my 81 280zx turbo and it pretty simple... a lot easier than i thought it would be +1 for diyautotune
