Does any one know the rpm range of the average turbo? Not the engine rpm, I basically what to know how fast a turbo spins from the point it begins compression till it no-longer does any good. One forum exaggerated that it spins around 100,000 rpm

A turbo spins very fast, most peak between 80,000 and 150,000 rpm depending on size (using low inertia turbos, 190,000 rpm)

Thanks everyone for the info/clearification: I'm trying to come up with an innovation to the "electric turbo". One that works. Has anyone had any expieriance with an electric turbo?

You mean an electric fan? Yes people have tried to market a CPU fan that fits in your intake and its a scam.

Something like a leafblower would be enough air to create more power, definitely not enough as much as a traditional turbo does, and that kind of power usage will kill the alternator.

no not an electric fan. Search ebay even and you will find exactly what I mean. They are retarded, you'll see. The theory though is sound cause it would have no need for an innercooler and if the motor were good enough for those rpms than it could vary to keep the psi consistant from idle to red line. Check it out.

I've searched ebay and found nothing but those electric fans.

Link please.

Sorry : I can't seem to put the link in. All I did was search ALL CATAGORIES for "electric turbo" and after scrolling down it is listed as electric supercharger/turbo and it is just a rip off since it doesn't actually work. The fan is weak and so is the motor. Actual miniture compression turbine blades designed after jet turbines driven by whats called the SILENCER series dc motor is what I want to make.

you'll still need an intercooler, when you compress air, no matter how you do it, the temperature rises.

there is a system out there, i forget who makes it, that is basically a roots type supercharger with three electric motors. it works like nitrous, you hit a button and it discharges the dedicated battery(s) to spin the supercharger for 15 seconds or so. it actually works, but it's still a stupid idea, like yours (sorry).

everytime you convert energy from electricity to motion you loose effeciency. like kdashy said, it would kill the alternator because the power draw would be enormous. it would take more to spin the alternator to power the system than to drive the compressor straight.

same reason why clutch fans are more effecient than electric ones. it only makes sense to use an electric fan if it's switched.

Here is the only real electric turbo setup -> http://www.boosthead.com/home.php

You could get around 300-350RWHP on the KA with it.

It's really not a bad idea considering people pay $40 a bottle for nitrous refills, and this can be recharged by either plugging it in or from your alternator.

Thanks for your researching! I've seen that electric turbo before as well as the one cdlong was talking about with three motors. I don't argue the fact that the alternator takes power away but you overestimate the power drain. I'll use the airconditioner to convey my point. It is painfully obvious that the condensor on the airconditioner pulls way more than twice the power. You feel this when you turn it on and the nose of the car dips down. When you turn on a huge sound system like the one I have using two 350 watt rms kicker amps and when you turn them on = no difference. Every electric motor has different charactoristics and abilities. These super leaf blowers can be alot better is what I'm saying.
