K, so I'm beginning to piece together a mild turbo kit for my single slammer. It's going to be a T2 mani as I just picked up an SR one a few weeks ago.

My question for you guys is, how much on average, is a rebuild? I was just thinking of picking up an old t25/t28 or w/e and having it rebuilt. I don't really trust somebody's word on something as important as a used turbo.

This is a BUDGET build btw. I'm on track to complete it under $1000 with decent parts.

Thanks.

You have two choices.

1: You can send your turbo out to a shop or find a local shop that specializes in turbochargers. They need to have a tool to balance the rotating assembly to be done properly. From past experience I know it can be around 240$ to rebuild a T25/T28.

2: You can get a Garrett rebuild kit for about 80$ and you can rebuild it yourself.I did this to my T3/T4. It took about an hour. I made marks on all the pieces to ensure id re-assemble it correctly. I mainly did it because my oil seal was slightly leaking.

Getting the rotating assembly balanced s important if you swap turbine or compressor wheels.

its seriously not that hard to rebuild it yourself, there are lots of write ups online and its kinda fun. and if you index everything and reassemble it the same way it came apart, in theory it will still be in balance.

i think the hardest part about rebuilding a t25 is that super huge snap ring that holds the compressor housing on, its a b**** to get off.

I agree 100%

Get a few different color paint pens and a scribe. Take it apart and lie the parts down in order and the direction in which they were facing. Simply do the reverse during assembly.

Make sure you get everything lined up as close as possible and you should be good to go.
