I finally have the 92 240sx dohc KA in my S14. The head and intake manifold were fully ported, the head has a 3-angle valve job, and the bottom end is an OEM rebuild(9.5:1 comp. etc..). As ive read this engine is an OBD1, and mine is an OBD2. So what i did (with the advice of people here and everywhere else) is I swapped the intake mani over so the smog stuff would all match up. Plus this new engine( i blew my last one) has ALL the EGR and everything else permenantly blocked off with this wax stuff, so all the smog stuff is gone. When we swapped over the intake mani, the car wouldnt run right, we played with timing, we put bigger injectors in, and still the same problem, NO power all the way up, it goes, but not even as fast as it was stock. New plugs. So i was thinking about puttin the hedder on that came with it and try and make the intake manifold that is ported work on it, like it was intended. Should, or could i, swap a 92 ECU into the car, or put a standalone system in, what should i do, everyhting so far will not work!! All the mechanics there think that the stock intake mani doesnt match the porting in the head, so thats why it isnt working, its also VERY VERY LOUD, like an exhaust leak on crack!!!

Somebody please help me, here is what i bought in this link

thanks, bryan

I also posted this in the N/A KA forum, and i have tried everything to find out what the problem is, there are no codes, no check engine light, timing is around 20

So noone has any ideas what i should do??? I guess ill just hook up the 92 external coil distributor, the 92 intake mani, an MSD ignition, and a standalone ECU. That should take care of ALL problems....I hope...

I'm just going to get a loan, and buy the msd sci, and the safc2 maybe 1, but i dunno. i might even have to get the stock ecu from a 92 and put that into my car then wire up the piggy back and ignition.....someone help me please....

So you used your '96 intake manifold, and all the sensors that reside on it...

And the '96 MAF and distributor...

Basically, you only need the head/block from the '92...EVERYTHING else from the '96.

thats what i did, but its not working, see above for problems. The head is all ported, so is the intake manifold, 3 angle valve job, with the 96 intake manifold instead of the ported 92, it doesnt work...it hesitates and falls flat on its face as soon as 5000rpms rolls around

orion, youre the man, helpin me out and all....one thing i forgot to mention, is that the S13 dohc, came with an external coil ignition, with a place for 1 wire loom. so since my car had 2, and so does my internal coil, we used the S14 one, maybe thats the problem? Maybe if i can somehow use the 92 external coil it might work....any insight on this????

...no.

When putting a S13 head/block into an S14, there is NO wiring involved.

And you may have 2 problems...the hesitation may be from ignition or cam timing...???

Falling flat or hitting a limiter exactly at 5k may be a bad 5th gear switch.

why 5th gear, i cant even go fast enough to justify putting it into 5th......im going to get an MSD ignition( i want oine anywayz), but should i getthe SCI or can and where do i get a distributorless ignition system, maybe getting rid of the dist. will help, maybe not.....thanks again.-Bryan

oh btw, oh do you check/change cam timing, the cams are from a 91 or something(better duration for turbo is what the guy said), and will the SAFC 1 or 2 be a better buy, and would that actualyy help me tune the car??

5th gear switch could be dead...so if the ECU thinks you're in 5th all the time (due to a bad switch), it wil limit RPMs to 5000...its the speed cut.

And adding piggy backs and/or DIS and stuff is a bad idea right now...never good to "upgrade" if there are other possible problems...unless you KNOW it's the root of the problem.

Have you checked the base timing, and is it at 20...?

I told the shop to set it 20 using a timing light and a dyno, and they said it was gpoing to be done.....would a new ignition, new distributor, new iridium plugs(i have some really cheap weird company plugs in there i think) and new wirse help, or would it hurt, because i was going to do all that anywayzthe thing that sux is that i still owe money for the car, i boiught it 3 years ago, and i still owe like 6 grand,....anywayz..thanks..ill call the shop tomorrow, and ill see about putting quality stuff in there, -Bryan

I think that the Cam timing is the problem, what should, or how should the cam timing be set? i am also going to put the Z32 fuel filter back in, and put some iridium spark plugs in there. sorry about the last post, i was drunk....oh well,

thanks for all the input, you really helped me out..-Bryan
