Yes, any bike, especially an R1 with it's tall 1st gear and not too much hp and torque on the bottom end, are hard to launch in a drag race. I've smoked Z06's, a Ferrari 360, and a heavily modded late 60 Camaro with slicks (this car was so loud I thought every cop within 10 miles would be coming for us)... Just on the throttle, the R1 picks up the front end around 70 in 1st gear, at 90 it's damn near impossible to keep the front end down. By that point you're usually so far in front of the cars that it doesn't hurt too much to short shift to second. Now, if it was a roll on, the rider was in the wrong gear. Oh, and I'm no small guy at 250 lbs.
