I took off my turbo and manifold today so that I could replace the manifold -> turbo gasket. After I got it all off and apart, I decided that I didn't want to do it again anytime soon. I was planning on upgrading my turbo anyways, so I think I'm just going to do it now. I'm looking for a turbo that's capable of a reliable 250-300 whp, with a reasonably fast spool-up; I'm building this car for auto-x/track. I'd also prefer that the turbo be internally gated. I know that S14 or S15 t28 will work well, and I'm kinda leaning towards those, simply because i can use the stock manifold. Now, if I could get my hands on a decently priced t3 manifold, I can pick up a t3 for fairly cheap, and go that direction. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm looking to spend no more than about $700 on this.

T3 will give you the hp that you are looking for, but don't expect a fast spool up on lower rpm, if you want a fast spool up, get yourself a GT2530 or GT2830 , they are BB and they are capable of this hp and will have very little lag, less lag than your T25, but if you want to go with T3, talk with boost_boy, he has one installed on his car and he will tell you what kind of lag to expect.

Thanks,PULSAR GTR

I caant help you out on this, but I was wondering if you already bought the T25 gaskets and if you go T3 if I could have em hehee.... I sound like a vulture lmao.

I only have the manifold -> turbo gasket left. The turbo -> elbow gasket is brand new, but I've already tightened it down once, if that makes a difference.

sorry, I decided to bolt the stock turbo back on for now, so I need the gaskets. I can't wait around for a used T28 or something to come up for sale, and I can't justify spending $700+ on a new turbo right now.

Turns out the old manifold-turbo gasket was missing a chunk about 1 1/2" long. Hopefully that was the problem, and I can be up and running again tonight.

Yeah, That could be a problem....Goofy why dont you go to the dealer ship and order one for a TTZ? I think there the same. I just coper spraid mine and reused it since it was good and not blown.

Yes, the turbo to manifold gasket will solve any boost problems big time. Mine broke and fell into the turbo also.

if you are swapping turbos get a GT25R

BB and good for ~340-380 WHP with 4000-4500 full boost..

Question, and this may sound like I'm sa-tu-pidbut I couldn't find any info about how- to fit T28 on CA manofold?? or does a GT25R, GT2530R fit on our manifold??I don't want to put those on SS manifold..due to $ and the idea that SS manifold may crack on high boost ( it does sure looks pretty. just my .02 C

4-4.5k 'till full boost? i thought BB turbos were supposed to spool pretty fast. isn't the GT25R just a T25 that's a little bigger and is BB? Then again i don't even know what RPM the stock T25 on our engines gets to full boost anyway. I'm used to my old eclipse that got to full boost at about 3k. I never really thought that spool time would be that drastically different. I was planning on getting a BB t28. When could i expect to get full boost with that?sorry if i'm getting off the topic a little but i'm really curious.

ball bearing doesn't exactly mean quicker spool, its just quicker transition between off boost and on boost. You aren't going to hit full boost much quicker than a non- ball-bearing turbo, you'll just go from off to on like *that*. Paul has a gt25r on his SR and I'll vouch that its amazing.

You honestly don't notice that you didn't hit boost till 4k when your back end comes swinging out in every gear as boost hits :pface lag is often bit<hed about by those who have tiny turbos;)

well what you guys say the lag difference between a gt25r and a gt28r would be?

I've never heard of a gt28r? I have head of the GT28 (s15 turbo I think) but never an R version. Oh well, its probably just because I don't know much about turbochargers :pface seach (google probably is best) for compressor maps of each turbo to compare them!

the GT28R (disco potato) is a piece of crap compared to the GT25R there is a fantastic post by myself and others that discuss it in the advanced forums on FreshAlloy.com forums....

GT25R not just another T25

.GT25R vs the GT28R

GT25R dyno sheet - max hp?

TO4E vs GT25R

the final decision was that the GT28R is good for ~300whp and the GT25R is good for about 340-380whp depending on turbine housing and the GT2817 is good for about 400whp but i have not seen one ever, just peoples personal experiences

it all says a lot about the gt25 but there isn't all that much said about the gt28 in terms of it being bad. i wish someone had dyno sheets/numbers to compare the two with.

well there is allot about SCC car that used the GT28r (disco potato) and the boost it was running and whp made compared to the dyno sheets provided that show whp at whatever boost level, you can compare..

anyway it cant amke as much power as the GT25R, if you read they explain how the tubines are are teh same but the compressors are WAY different, the GT25R has a much bigger compressor thus giving it more HP capabilities, as they both share the same turbines..

yeah. the compressor seems WAY to big for such a setup. i'd think it would create immense lag along with other problems.

My friend with a SR is using the .86 GT25R and full boost doesnt come on until 4200-4400.

I was considering using the .64 GT25R on my CA or a S15 T28. I really dont care about big numbers. As long as I get to my magic 300 whp mark, ill be happy.

The compressor housing and center have to be turned a bit to fit and a new wastegate bracket has to be made. Atleast thats how it was on my friends GTiR turbo on his RWD SR motor, the RWD T28 might only need minor turning of the compressor. The GT25R fits the manifold, but you will have to do some more customizing.
