Why is the S15 turbo so desirable, yet the T3 is never mentioned? People always gloss over the T3 and suggest a T3/T4.

Yes, I know the T28 is BB, but doesn't the T28 use a T3 compressor wheel (NOT a newer design GT) and a T25 turbine?

Specs: S15 T28Turbine: T25 0.64 A/R, 62 TrimCompressor: T3 .60 A/R, 60 Trim

Or the Pulsar GTiR T28 turbo with the same compressor, journal CHRA and a .86 A/R, 79 trim turbine.

Now compare that to a Garrett T3 "super 60"Turbine: T3 0.48 A/R, 68 TrimCompressor: T3 .42 A/R, 60 Trim

If the T3 was upgraded to the .63 A/R turbine wouldn't this turbo out perform the T28 because of the same compressor trim and larger T3 turbine (better flowing)?

Lastly, why do some people refer to the S14/S15 T28 as having a T04 compressor housing? Wouldn't that make the T28 a T25/T4 hybrid?

Edited for clarity, 4/24

Im no expert but from what I hear the T28 dual BB is better for everyday driving because of the faster spool up. But if you want to really get tossed back in your seat, the T3/T4 will do the job much better, it just takes longer to spool. It also has to do with what type of manifold, injectors, intake, maf, throttlebody, cams...etcI know from experience the T28BB tops out at about 260hp to the wheels. Thats what Im running now, and Ive got the dyno to prove it. Thats at about 13-14lbs boost (SAFC2/Wideband02/Dynojet tuned to 12:1 Air/Fuel). I wont run more for risk of spinning a bearing or topping out my injectors/MAF (stock S14SR20det).

T3's tend to be older designs and produce about the same power as the T28 these days. Thats why people have focused on T28's and the larger T04B - E compressor'd hybrids.

example: the gt2871r is rated at 440hp.

The T28 doesnt max at 260whp, your injectors do. With some larger injectors and MAF the turbo has been pushed passed the 300whp mark by numerous people.

But the T28 uses a T3 "older design" compressor wheel?

Um, that is a GT series, NOT a T series. Lets compare apples to apples.

I am starting to think the only reason why the T28 (hybrid T3/T25) is used over the T3 is because of the bolt-on T2 turbine flange.
