i'm kinda cheap and i don't wanna spend 2000 on a turbo kit so i was wonderin whats the cheapiest turbo kit for the 89 240sx,also if there isn't any cheap ones i was wondering whats the maximum psi i can run without an intercooler, while not frying my turbo.

intercoolers don't protect the turbo. they protect the engine.

i know some lancer guys that run with 5 PSI or so and get away without an IC, but I personally don't reccommend it

cheap can be a bad thing, 2k for a turbo kit is a good deal.

The cheapest is a peiced together kit, but you have to have good knowledge of the field to do it right.

i'm thinking of doing it myself with and intercooler pulled out of another car and a turbo out of a stealth rttt,so i can basically piece it together really cheaply.

You can find a lot of good OE intercoolers. Volvo makes some good ones. But if you go that route, you better know how to weld. Custom ICs need custom pipes.

if you run 7 psi, you should be fine. that's the upper limit i would run a stock KA.

i dunno about the PCV idea. i'm trying to figure in my head if that will disrupt air flow or not

if you're smart about it you can pull it off...if not, you're gonna build a big POS

read up alot on turbo KA forums and read up on home made turbo setups

Why don't you just hop in ur RB26 S14 or ur 3000GT that runs 9's or whatever other lies u used to trash up this board with.

With enough fuel you'll be fine. Guys run 17psi on race gas w/o intercoolers on my Z all the time. You COULD get away with it as long as u had the fuel to back it up, but I wouldn't advise it. I think most KA boys stick w/ the garrett T3 outta the 80's model 300ZX's. That should be about ~300 from a junkyard. Another $200 would be well spent on a late model MKIV supra intercooler. About as efficient as you're going to get out of a junkyard. As for fuel, if you again want to cheap out, check out the EIC (extra injector controller) combo that SDS offers - it can float another 150hp worth of fuel, which is about all you're going to be able to pull outta a 2k turbo setup.

Large diameter and reinforced (think large diesel trucks) radiator hoses work fine for both sides of the IC piping at that pressure.

Well I have a temporary pvc intake and it has lasted 6 months but its just a really small piece. I wouldn't feel safe with all my intercooler piping being pvc. I've felt my intake which is sch 40 after driving for about 30 minutes and it seemed to be really weak.

PVC is NOT to be used on the hot side of an IC.

Turbo kit is easy!

Find a used turbo from a z31

just grab a log style manifold

a stock CA or SR smic

make your own intercooler pipes with aluminum pipes, silicon couplers, and clamps

find a used bov

cheap boost controller

you can find premade kits for the oil lines

no welding needed!

The key is cheap and used! and installed yourself

A setup like above will get you to 4 or 5psi, but do not go over that, the stock injectors are only good for 6psi at the most

at 5psi you should be close or at 200hp, right?

This was my plan, and I was going to be turbo'ed for just $900

enjoy
