I got maybe a couple hundred yards down the street and then it made a real big bang (it souned like someone hit my motor with a hammer.) I pulled over and popped the hood and nocted the vacuum line that connects to the wastegate was not on there. I connected it back and started it up and the car runs like crap. I also noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust. I looked at the turbo and there was some oil on it. Is the head gasket gone or maybe the turbo ? I jsut need some peoples opinion. thanks
Be honest, how long and hard did you drive it like that? Down the street could mean take it for a mean spin. In any case, if it made the bang within about 100yds, then possibly you blew off an intercooler pipe (check all couplings). But in another case, that loud bang and white smoke will indicate that you have not only burned a fire ring or two on the headgasket, but it also usually tells you that you just cracked a couple of piston ringlands. It is very important that you check the intercooler piping well before you decide to tear off the head. Do a compression test to determine if your internal components have been breached. If compression tests yield horrible readings, pull the motor, pull the pistons and inspect them well.
I know about the bang and white smoke because I have done it a couple of times and it wasn't no intercooler pipe or blown headgasket .
