Hey guys guess what... I just got my 240 :D . Drives awesome, 1998 SE 5-spd with 21.5k miles, dark green. Ill make sure to post pics soon but I had a couple of general questions.

What are some of the most commonly done mods to 240s/KA24DEs before they get turboed (just stuff I can start on for performance increase that will help prepare for the turbo as well as some fun for the present).

And on a small note, the clutch seems a tad odd to me - is this normal. First off I need to press COMPLETELY down in order to start the car, is this just a trigger? And would it be wise to press COMPLETELY down when shifting?

Also, there is a point where I start to release the clutch where it is almost completely out but it kind of clicks and after that point (small distance to completely disengaged afterwards) the clutch seems not to have any effect. I can push it in till this point and receive no rev on the tach while depressing the throttle in gear. I know this seems a bit confusing but if u want to ask me any questions to clarify I would be glad to cooperate.

But thats about it, thanks for the (future) input.

Does it start in neutral? The clutch should engage around the top, not the bottom.

I'd suggest changing the ignition system, you'll get a little performance increase and it will help out when you go forced induction. Change all the fluids to synthetic, to include your transmission and rear diff. A catback exhaust is always a good idea.

Well I would suggest sitting down and drawing up the game plan. Are you planning on drag racing or autocross, or just want a fast street car. Do you plan on a full rebuild or just the turbo. I my engine was as new as yours I would do a kit until I am ready for more power then the internals. IMO a lot of the needed mods for turbo, take away from a NA car. For instance you could (while your getting your kit together) get your exhaust which will probably be 3 or so inches but your car would be loud and you will lose your low end power. I would just a mass the turbo related parts together until you are ready for the kit. that what I am doing now. I'm not doing my exaust until and other stuff til the kit is done You can always buy your suspension and brakes this way your car will better handel your newfound power when you go turbo. I don't know every situation is different so wiegh your options and see whats best for you.:)

As far as the clutch goes, you can only start the car with the clutch fully pressed, if you look at the clutch pedal you'll see the switch, if this bothers you just duck-tape the switch so it'll be pressed in all the time. your clutch should start "grabbing" almost immediately, and you should have slight free-play when you don't press the pedal.

Congrats on your new S14 Matt. Before you turbo your car, yoou wanna make sure it's in the best shape. Check your cooling system and change fluids (if you can, go with synthetics like WD said). Nows a good time to fix all the little things you noticed when you inspected the car (Im sure you had it inspected before you bought it?!)If you're not ready to touch the engine yet (exhaust, ignition) then focus on the suspension and brakes.

BTW I think the clutch sounds fine.

Thanks, But I found out what that thing with the clutch was. There is a certain distance you can push in the clutch with little resistance and does not affect anything, its called "freeplay" by nissan in the owner's manual.

Yeah, it's not a big deal, I have the same thing.

Sounds like a nice car.

Hope you didn't spend all your $$ on the car, gotta have money for mods!

Oh I have money for mods, =). BTW: what would all of the fluids be that I replace with synthetics?
