Is your KA built with forged internals? What kind of fuel management do you plan on running? If you have a stock motor dont even think about forcing 20 pounds of boost into it. Youll throw a rod harder and faster then any women (or man) you've ever fu<ked. Do some research bro, google is your homeboi.

i wouldnt look at it as wanting to run "20psi" What are your power goals and intentions for the car? that would better answer the "what turbo frame?" to go with.

Exactly.

The T25 is to small and the T4 is to large considering the T3 flanged turbo can support enough power to lift the head on a built motor.

So lets assume you're going with a T3. The best turbo in my opinion will always be a T3/TO4E with a 50 trim comp wheel, stg 3 exhaust wheel with a .48 AR exhaust housing. The .48AR will spool fast and still support 400whp.

i was thinkin the same turbo you had mentioned but with a .63 exhaust housing i know slower spool but will it give the turbo a lil more top end? or not worth it? (yes im building my kade)

I used the .63 AR on my S14. I liked it, but would go with the .48 AR if I chose that turbo again. Unless your goals are more then 400whp there is no need to add lag to the equation if you don't have to.

I'm wanting to run 500hp and above i have cp forged pistons, eagle rods titanium valves, brian crower race cams, brian crower retainer spring kit, head ported and polished, crank balanced, aluminum driveshaft, excedy stage 3 6-puck clutch, lightened flywheel,sr20 pulleys,740cc injectors and im running 93 octane, also have a bigger throttle body, injen cold air intake and thats about all i remember off the top of my head. I want a good turbo so i can at least get 25psi -28psi without blowing the motor or killing the turbo..lol

What about about a T4 .68AR godspeed turbo its good for 550hp?

CXRacing stuff is just Chinese knock off crap. None of the turbo's are balanced ate made with good internals, if they last it's a fluke, not the standard.

I've been doing this awhile now and I can say one thing for sure, you don't need more then 400whp in the S13 or S14 for it to be an animal with serious traction issues. You guys can aim for over 500, but you're going to be octane limited for the most part, unless you run race gas.

The larger the turbo, the more lag it has. Which makes the daily driver aspect suffer quite a bit. If you choose a turbo that peaks around 450 you'll have basically no lag and more power then most tires can effectively put to the ground. Not to mention the turbo's in that range are WAY cheaper. Like $450-$550 at most.

Just food for thought guys.

okay..... the agp delta 40 (somewhat close to a gt35) is 600 smackers, where are you seein strong gt35 sized turbo for around that price cause a garret gt35r will run 1400 or in that ball park

well with your set up, you'll probably need to run about 20 psi to be over 400(WD would know a lil better), i read up on this alot before even gettin into it, and alotta guys said 400 was dumb so i was like i'll shoot for that. just remember 400 on the street is almost over kill, your gonna need some stickies on your rears. you should be able to get that gt35 up in the 20's range with 93 octane, do a lil read up on turbo'n and such on the forum. dont hesitate to ask questions but make sure to search them first. ya i go to high school here (senior year finally)

Once you start making over 420ish whp you're probably going to need race gas or alcohol injection. Most turbo's that support 500whp are going to make right around 400 at 20 psi. Everything will depend on tuning and supporting mods of course, like cams etc.

The larger turbo's aren't THAT much more efficient that they allow for more boost without the added octane.

The T3/TO4E with the .63 AR exhaust housing will support 500whp when matched with atleast a 38mm wastegate. But like I said, you'll need race fuel or alky by then.

If you run a large turbo, like a T67 or TO4E you will make more power with less boost. But you also have less time under the power curve because of the lag. Depending on the turbo selection, we're talking about 2500 of added lag. The T3/T04E .63AR was at full song by 3200ish rpm, I also have a TO4E .81AR that I'm using now, and was using before I popped the motor, it didn't see full boost until 4800-5000 rpm. Granted, it pulls hard when it spools, but the difference in HP production doesn't outweigh the lag in my personal opinion.

As far as your setup goes, as long as the internals are of any name brand and they are forged/balanced/installed by professionals your block itself will hold over 500whp. In fact your head will lift before the internals will let go. So it's all about the supporting mods attached to the motor now. The most important is how you're tuning everything. Almost any turbo bigger then a standard T3 will make more then 400whp on the KA.

I suggest the T3/TO4E .63AR hotside, 50 trim compressor and atleast a 38mm wastegate. That will support right around 400whp and have almost no lag at all. If you need to make 500-600 at the track, just add nitrous. The new systems these days are very safe and almost idiot proof. That way you have a car that pulls like a C5 Vette off the line and can still make a 10 second pass if you need it to. If you want a little more room for power, use the .86AR, touch more lag but it allows a little more flow.

The key to power production at higher boost levels isn't the compressor, it's the exhaust housing being able to move the air out. Which is why the T28 is just to small, it becomes a restriction to flow at 7 psi and actually causes exhaust gas reversion much after that.

Sorry, I get rambling sometimes

What was the question?

To be honest I've been seeing some great deals on used Holset turbo's. Anything with a T3 exhaust housing is a good choice, might not be perfect but it'll work really well. We've had quite a few guys go with used Holsets and post very good results. They are used on diesels mostly, but are available in used and remanufactured form all over the internet and lots of eBay.

Like this one...

Holset H1C

would the twin scroll design be a problem without a twin scroll mani (very pricey)? cause i found a reman HX35/40hybrid for 400.

If ya would take a look at it and tell me if the exhaust housin would be able to bolt up to a 5 bolt downpipe (looks a lil different)

That doesn't seem like a good deal to me. It's rebuilt but is it balanced? Also those can be had new for about $550.
