hey everyone im new here... ok well i have a automatic 's13 that i am planning on building up to about 350-400 hp after i pull the rad. and rad. support off the motor (kid before me wrecked it) and do some more bodywork on it. i am planning on a full rebuild, bored, port and polish on exhaust side of head and 3 angle valve job, forged internals, basicly a fully built KA24DE eventualy with a nos setup, now the one thing i havent been able to find any info on is how you setup a turbo on with an automatic trani... basicly whats the difference between setups on a standard traniand a auto trani... any clarification would be greatly appreciated

Another thing that would be greatly appreciated would be if anyone could give any good refferances on any type of turbo, nos, or any other type of imort tuner book thanks

The differences are basically the same as the difference between n/a auto vs manual... several have already done it; just read the stickies, basically everything that applies to manual turbos apply to automatics.

if you do go the automatic route, please let me know how reliable it is (wether or not the transmission starts slipping or anything) because im looking to run a turbo, but was thinking about either doing the c4 swap or a manual swap.

it sounds like you are gonna do a hell of a lot of work. are you planning on doing a 5 speed swap in the future? keep us posted with pics!

Ok let me make an easy clarification.....Nissan does not make a good auto transmission that is durable enough to run those kind of hp figures that you want.....Now not to seem snippy but why would you want an auto with a turbo k serie engine ?......You do realize that the trans is going to shift way before max power is made ?.....Well if you want an auto and it has to be a k series engine I do suggest to have a machineshop manufacturea belhousing adaptor plate to be able to use a THM700-R4 trans.....people have been using them for years on all types of imports and other domestics.....If you really want an auto trans that wont break on a daily basis and spit on most sticks its the only practical way(think money)

Otherwise for the money drop a sbc or lsx engine and trans in it...Its easier than you would think......Think 400hp on pumpgas for about 3-4k installed...

ok first i do believe that the world famous 700+rwhp KA-T powered 240has a auto trani... (actualy i no it does because i just watched the video of the cockpit during a run there was no shifting) not gonna hold up eh? and if it does blow or whatever then i see what broke and see what i can do to solve the problem...

the reason i want to keep this setup is because i see everyone swaping in 5 speeds... i dont want to do the same thing that i see so much... i would rather have something unique that have something that everyone else has done... im not tryin to say everones following everyone or anything like that.. i just want to have something that is different from what other people have done... and if i blow my trani or it starts to slip i will rebuilt with a more severe duty rebuild while im in school (going to a tech school for automotive) or swap in a c4 trani which thay already make a swap kit for.

^^^^ I believe he's saying the stock auto transmission won't hold @ the powers you want.

The 700rwhp one you are talking about has a C4 transmission, I believe (if we are talking about the same car) - regardless, there are no 700rwhp w/ any sort of completely stock transmission, manual or auto.

However, the few 300whp+ hp auto 240 ka-t's out there at the very minimal have redone torque converters, etc (JGS's turbo auto 240 comes to mind).

If you are going to use your stock transmission check the guys at Level 10 industries or something like that.

Also, you can use a more peppier transmission like the one on the pathfinder or 350z auto but you will need to adapt it.

Good luck on your auto turbo.... slap a full T4 with a good intercooler and you are golden!!
