I recently started seeing some oil colored and smelling smoke in my exhaust- came on all of a sudden, just started happening one day. I don't have any oil in my coolant nor coolant in my oil.

I'm trying to track down the problem and wondering this:

If the turbo oil seal is broken will I necessarily have oil in the hotpipe to the intercooler? Or is it possible that the turbo is leaking oil and burning it straight to the exhaust without effecting the intake side? What's the best way to figure out if the turbo oil seal is bad?

I'm thinking that a compression/leakdown test would be a good way to rule oput internal engine problems... but while i'm waiting for that test, any advice on diagnosing the turbo?

ive rarely heard of anybody having oil in their intake or hotpipe from there turbo seals leaking but i have heard of it happening. best way to check is to pull of the intercooler and intake pipe and look. also is the smoke white? if so its your turbo seals most likely..when they go bad you will just get smoke from out of your exhaust system..like i said rarely in the hotpipe or intake..other than that is your car running fine?
