turbo oil lines + compression test

im looking at a very simple and reliable turbo setup for now (in my KA24E), basically a JGS log-style manifold, either a T25 or a T3 turbo, starion or other cheap FMIC, 370CC sr20 injectors, Walbro 255 fuel pump, Apexi S-AFC, and 1st gen DSM BOV plus all the intake/exhaust piping.

my first question is how you go about running the oil lines for the turbo, that always kind of scared me when i thought about turboing it.

second question is, how do you do a compression test? i heard its basically a tool or something you can buy at an auto parts store for cheap, but how do you do it?

thats all the questions i have for now...

on motors that are not turbo from the factory, the easiest way to run oil to them is to tee off of the oil pressure switch for the feed, and drain back to the pan.

coolant lines are another story, and can be difficult depending on the motor. someone with a ka-t can help you there.

a compression gauge is just a pressure gauge and a check valve. the gauge has a hose that you screw into the head via the spark plug hole.

avoid the T25, you will end up replacing it because you will choke the turbo past 4K rpm's

T the oil pressure sender for the oil lines, run an NPT to AN adaptor, then use 4 AN hose from the fitting to your turbo. On the drain, use 10 AN or so and just drill a hold and weld a bung onto your oil pan.

Coolant lines aren't necessary but if you want to add them just take the lines off your throttle body, thats the easiest way.

yeah, as far as the coolant lines I was reading on here about just re-routing the throttle body lines, i was thinking of doing that anyway.

thanks for the info on oil lines, none of those involves drilling the block or anything? i seem to have a vauge memory of reading somewhere that you might have to do that..

no, but you will have to drill a hole in your oil pan. You can drill a hole and tap it, weld a bung on it, weld a nut on it, or use a connector that threads through like a bulkhead connector.But for the oil line, just tap off the oil pressure sensor. Its 1/8 BSPT.

The oil pressure sensor is 1/8bspt, its easiest to retap it to 1/8npt. Run -3an to the turbo, and something BIG out to the pan.

yeah I just measured it, its 1/8. I'll edit that post just so no one gets confused.I hope we have an 1/8 tap. I think so.

Also in your set up, I do not believe you can use the 370 sr injectors on a ka24e, since they are side feed. I believe you will need to use the ca18 injectors. Please some one correct me if i am incorrect

you are correct, I realized that after i posted. the ca18 are top feed like the ka so those will work.

I just saw my friend on an RX7 turbo have problems because -3an was too big, and forced oil past the seals of the turbo, everyoen here is runnign -4an and -3an, and I just got my -3an feed line, but I think i'll get a restrictor pill because I dont want my oil seals to leak. thought i haven't heard anyone here have problems with -3an... am I just paranoid?

ive also heard that -3AN is better but -4AN will work with a restrictor...on the ka24e...thats the sam setup im using after i replace all gaskets on my 89...

im confused... what is -3AN and -4AN? is that line size?and is 1/8 BSPT and 1/8npt fitting type?

correct, -4an and -3an is line size (-4 being larger in diameter than -3) and 1/8 BSPT and NPT are fitting size and thread types. BSPT is metric, NPT is American.
