I just got my turbo in. It is a t3 super sixty. I just had a question? Should I/Can I Clock the turbo so the oil inlet is facing straight up or is it okay that it is coming in from the side? Does having it come in basically horizontally adversley affect oil flow?

I know all the main stuff about building the setup I just have a a bunch of nit picky questions for you guys.

Thanks for your help

yes, you cant do that because the oil return has no pressure, and will not drain. if it has a slight angle to it thats fine, but it cannot be horizantal

what kind of angle is okay? 30 deg? is vertical better for the life of the turbo?

Vertical is optimal. Any deviance from being straight up and down should be reserved for situations where it is absolutely necessary for clearance. But should be at a maximum of 30 degrees in any direction. Anymore than that and you will likely cause the oil to have a hard time draining from the bearing section. If it gets backed up, it will leak past the seals and burn up in the turbine. Not only will you be adding oil every week, you will be smoking everywhere you go.

is your turbo already mounted, it sounds like you have already mounted it so that the oil is horizantal????

Unless the axis of the turbo shaft is vertical(which it should not be), the center-bearing section can be adjusted so that the outlet is pointing pretty much straight down.

I don't have it mounted yet, I was just looking at the manifold and the turbo the other night and noticed that the oil inlet is near horizontal if I mount it the wa it is set up now. I know I can clock the turbo so that the compressor output will be facing the right way when the bearing section is vertical. I am just not sure how to do that. I am sure I can figure it out. I just wanted to see what you guys had to say

just loosen the bolts on both housings that hold it to the center section. then rotate the center section to however you please. you might have to use some force. time to bust out the BFH.

that's exactly how you would do to clock the inlet+outlet vertically. it's best that you line them vertically; blown turbo are useually caused by drainage problem.
