anyone tried putting a nissan turbo on a z24 motor yet? I know the pulsar and other models had turbos back then, but were they worth a crap? just wondering, since i've seen some of these cars at junkyards. I've only had my truck a short time, thinking about what all I can do to it.

sure why not. The only thing stopping it from being a beast is that the heads of these were designed for emissions not power or performance.

Turboing a KA24e is fun.

yeah the head is the downfall

i plan on keeping my Z24 block and putting a KA head on it... thought i was gonna be the first to do so but apparently not

i personally am going to do a hardcore NA build tho... not turbo

cool....the head is not that hard to swap...the only thing is ive got 220k miles on the block, i would probly need to rebuild it. so i figure on duneriding it into dust then swapping out for a new motor. The turbo could accelerate this pending engine swap, wonder how effective this would be... high end boost would be nice for hardcore climbing up sand, but low end lag could suck...even with good gears.

as far as lag the ka24e isn't too bad... mainly because you treat it as an american motor

its a SOHC cam motor that has more torque than hp on a dyno (at least from the trucks i've seen dyno'd) so when you add a turbo it unleashes the hp from the torquey motor

I am trying to find a few spare KA24es so I can build them up.

I want to build a carb'd KAe, A turbo KAe, and a nice EFI all motor.

Then see which I like best. Kind of a long term project.

my ultimate motor fantasy for my truck is the z24 block... port and polished ka24e head... 44mm mikuni side drafts... lightweight high compression pistons... apparently done right its worth 300 hp but i'm not sure about the legitimacy of that claim... i just want a 'no worries' 200 wheelhp

300 is getable, but will involve specalized headers (4 into 1 is best), proper port and polish, shortening the lenght of the pipes from the plenum, bigger throttle body, oversized pistons, shorter stroke, and carrying the compression way high (about 12:1) and injecting alcohol to prevent detonation. It's easier with a turbo and NOS.
