Friday night I decided to take the 240 and follow some friends on a 70 mile trip at 6:00pm. It was mostly highway miles and the outside temp was around 70 degrees. Cruising on the highway at around 3400rpms(80mph). Noticed that the brakes were a little spongy but I didn`t feel like it was all that bad. Left at around 10:30pm to go get something to eat and it was windy and a little cooler. We Left the parking lot at around 11:15pm and headed home. About halfway on the trip cruising at 3700rpms(85,90mph) I blew smoke all over one of my friends corvettes(2005 just bought it for his wife). I was close to the exit and we pulled in the gas station at which point I had to use the Ebrakes. After seeing the melted brake housing we came up with a repair plan.

Here what it looked like before the repair.Notice the coke can. A friend of mine came up with that cool idea for a heat shield! I allways carry duck tape cause that stuff fixes a lot of problems!

Anyway after having a good laugh I am up for suggestions on what to do next! Oh by the way AutoZone does not sell the brake reservoir.

a heat sheild is completely needed. once i took out my old peice of sheet metal and had a hole the size of a pea, bought a MC from an online junkyard. probably your best bet to find someone parting their car or go to car-part.com

find, buy, make a better heat sheild. i got a turbo blanket kit from summitracing.com (thermo-tec brand) comes with enough to make a few and wrap a few other things

3 things that'll really help.

1.) as mentioned before, heat wrap (any kit..summit's will work) around your master cylinder.

2.) Jet coat/hot coat your turbine housing and your downpipe. (think it's around $40 to get the backside of the turbo coated...)

3.) Heatshield, goes over the top of the turbo to help keep heat down.

You'll be set if you do those!

Great temp fix Rob...I'm building a heat shield myself right now. The coke can is classic though. You should make that your signature pic.

LOL, I knew you would love the coke can. We were stuck in Clanton when a friend of mine flattend a coke can and handed it to me. I leave duck tape in the car for such emergencies. I guess I need to update my document and include heat shields!

No, the fan isn't going to keep heat between your turbo and MC down really. It would help to reduce overall temps, but without some kind of heat shield you're bound to melt the MC.

I though getting a sheet of aluminum (from like home depot or Menard's) would be better you can get a big roll for $10 or so. then you could just cut it to fit and space it the way you want, We were gonna make dash kits out of it because it would be less ricey if it was real aluminum but decided no rice of anykind and dropped the Idea but this thread makes me want to go get some now just to make cheep *** heat sheilds. Thanks 4 the Idea BTW I love the "coke" fix . LMFAO

Yea I wrapped it around my MC, fluid resovoir, and some of the wires/hoses running in there. Works like a charm. Plus I still have about 75% of the heat wrap left unused. So if it does fail anytime soon, I can replace it with some to spare again.

Ok update. The reservoir only cost 15 bucks from our Infiniti Nissan sponsor. I will give you the part number when it gets here. A friend of mine told me they make synthetic brake fluid. I will see how well that will work. Hopefully I will get a heatshield before NOPI at Steele AL May 14 and 15.

Yup. I used tin foil for a while. Worked, but just looked trashy.

dynamat extreme (the stuff with metal on the outside) works well as a cover and then if you put a shield over that it will be unstoppable... or stopable in the case of the brakes.
