Hi...I'm new to NICO, so I will hopefully be learning alot from the current members. Alright...my question is: at http://www.obxracingperformanc.../1324 they have a pretty nice looking aftermarket turbo manifold. I contacted the company and they told me that it is a direct replacement for the stock manifold. I was wondering if anyone else has this on their SR20DET, and if so, was it worth it. This company has been having alot of these manifolds on Ebay for $175, so if it's a good product I'll probably buy there. Anyone have any thoughts?? Thanks...

Ive heard of even great companies like JIC manifolds cracking. I wouldnt throw out my money on a shiny POS.

HKS makes one that goes for around $1100-1600, if OBX is selling them for $175, expect to be buying a few of them and replacing them.

i have a sard stainless manifold. it cracked twice. after having welded the manifold very heavily, i have no new cracks in the last 6 months or so. i would buy the cheapo one, weld over the welds more heavily (especially at the gathering spot where the four pipes meet, and the welds in the pipes) and then add some bracing to the turbo to help carry some of the weight. even the $1000 ones will crack imo.

i think if you just put in a little extra to the obx mani you will be ok, at least better then if you didn't.shaun

Its not always the best option to run a stainless manifold of any kind on a daily driver.

They dont always crack at the welds.

AFAIK the obx one is very thin (1,5mm i think)

So you would be better of getting one that is a bit thicker like 3mm or so.

So most of you are still using the stock cast manifold?

Look for one that has a wall thickness of 3mm, less then that and it will crack one a month till it is one big weld. Look for Apexi or HKS, trust ones are 2mm.

the reason y many stainless manifolds crack is due the weight of the turbo. The manifold has to hold the turbo up. If the manifold has poor construction then it will crack faster than ones with better construction.

there is a solution to this problem. :thinker

If you place a bracket supporting the turbo up from the block, or a bracket holding it up...cracking will be at a minimal.

Buy the cheap manifold and make a bracket.Cracking solved.

but i hate cheap sh**, i rather buy a well constructed Japanese manifold. Of course i will put a bracket on this too...

good luck to all~Joe~
